Here is a ticket stub from the Nov 24, 1973 Canadian College Bowl for Vanier Cup game.
Here is an interesting write up about the game: ----------------------------------------------------------------------- The ninth Vanier Cup on November 24, 1973 was the first to be played at Toronto's CNE Stadium, and was the first time the national championship was contested on artificial turf. A constant, driving rain greeted the McGill Redmen and Saint Mary's Huskies as they marched onto the field, and of some 17,000 ticket holders, only 2,000 or so braved the elements to witness the game. Both teams passing attacks were neutralized by the elements, and both defences fortified against the resultant ground game. Only two game balls were on hand, and the grip on the ball quickly became hard to handle. "After the first half, they were so waterlogged it felt like you were throwing a brick," commented SMU quarterback Bill Robinson, who completed 3 of 12 attempts for a mere 47 yards. His counterpart with McGill, Uldis Auders, was similarly frustrated, completing only 2 of 10 attempts for 16 yards, and adding 2 interceptions to his statistics. In an interesting coincidence, Bill Robinson's son, also named Bill, is the backup quarterback on the 2002 Saint Mary's Huskies squad. Saint Mary's took the lead in the second quarter with two field goals and two singles by kicker Ken Clark, creating an 8-0 halftime lead. McGill finally broke onto the scoreboard after recovering an SMU fumble in the final three minutes of the third quarter, which set up a 2-yard touchdown run by Don Cowie on the final play of the quarter. McGill was suddenly within striking distance, trailing 8-6. McGill's hopes again improved early in the fourth quarter, as they blocked a Ron Kelly punt to take possession on the SMU 31-yard line. Trailing 8-6, the Redmen advanced to the 11 and had a third-and-two situation. Rather than take the slimmest of leads with an easy field goal, coach Charlie Baillie decided to gamble. A handoff to running back Don Cowie was followed by the rapid assault of the SMU front four, who forced a turnover on downs. Saint Mary's was unable to find much spark on their ensuing drive, but punter Ken Clark boomed an 80-yard punt (still a Vanier Cup record) to the McGill 14. Sloppy play ensued on the following three possessions--McGill tried to punt and it was blocked; Saint Mary's had three shots at the endzone from within the five yardline but turned over the ball on downs; McGill took control and proceeded to fumble the ball. Saint Mary's finally managed to pull everything together, and halfback Ange Santucci scored on a 7-yard touchdown run with 1:35 left on the clock to secure a 14-6 victory for coach Al Keith and the Huskies. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- $10.00 Dlvd, Paypal only please payment owed PM me if interested.
