Ok, I have been dying to ask you, the Net 54 experts, who's opinions I respect, why aren't Moonlight Graham's few baseball cards worth more? I consigned a 1902 cabinet card of the Charlotte Hornets Base Ball Club with Archie "Moonlight" Graham in it (his rookie card you could say), and it was graded by SGC as a 20, to this year's Robert Edwards Auction, and it only sold for 1500. I believe last year a pretty beat up picture sold for around 1900-2000 in the same auction so I figured my piece would do a heck of a lot better than that. I've been afraid to ask this question because of the answers that I might get. I know Moonlight is famous because of the movie "Field Of Dreams", but he does have a great story as well as a great nickname

Probably simply missed the window. Should have sold it closer to the time of the movie...that said, 1500 is a decent price for what could be argued to be an obscure player with largely manufactured fame. For the record, I think it is a very cool piece, but it's sort of like my nice Ray Braddock autographed photo...if I wanted to get fair value out of it I should have sold it around the time the movie Cinderella Man came out. Also, the economy isn't great and there's a lot of good items going for less than they would have a few years ago...

That would be "Jim" Braddock...
Anyways, I agree that Moonlight's fame is purely manufactured. Braddock's not so much, but the movie definitely helped. |

of course you are right on Braddock, I was just typing too fast. It came out of a notebook I got when I owned a card shop 20 years ago or so...still have it around here somewhere.
