Hey all,
I was hoping to get some feedback from fellow net54 members... Has anyone here consigned an item to heritage whereby you recieved a pre auction estimate, and if so how did the price realized at auction compare to what was initially estimated... Your input is much appreciated... -Dave Last edited by daves_resale_shop; 06-25-2012 at 09:25 AM. Reason: typo |

Heritage tends to estimate quite high, where as Hunts and REA are always far more conservative. Especially REA, in which the final price realized almost always exceeds their pre-auction estimates.

Estimate of $5000, my view is $3000. I'll update after the auction and no, I'm not going to mention the item.

If I were a consignor, I would prefer the higher estimates for Heritage as my thinking is that it nudges bidders go to higher thinking that if they hit the estimate, it is around VCP average, but if it's is below, they got a good deal. (Of course, if the estimate is truly VCP average, that's a completely different story.)
I consigned some cards w/ Heritage last year, nothing extraordinary, but I think around 10 lots. In general, some went above what I expected, and some went below, so overall, my take was about what I expected, so I was satisfied, but won't be running to Heritage the next time I have cards to consign. (Probably would go w/ Goodwin because of the lower seller fees.) However, for memorabilia, the options are fewer, and I'd probably give Heritage serious thought again depending on how negotiations w/ the seller fees went. The only other big ones are Legendary and REA although H&S, SCP, and Mile High also have substantial memorabilia in their catalogs. My thinking would be that Heritage still has more "eyes" going through their auctions however than the latter ones. |

IMO higher estimates discourage bidding, most auction houses tend to go with lower estimates.
And for memorabilia I think Lelands should be mentioned in this thread.

I've consigned two items to them and was disappointed in the outcome of both. Items in question were HOF game-used jerseys. My feeling is the 20% (or near 20%) buyers premium keeps bids down on all but the most exceptional pieces.
In hindsight I think I could have done just as well or better on eBay. |

I agree with Richard.. Higher estimates scare away bidders.. And like the others said, HA tends to put high estimates on their items

I agree too, higher estimates make people skittish, I think leland's should be mentioned for memorabilia too. I wish i would have consigned my piece with them.
