Who's collecting the 1955 Dodgers?
I've been collecting the 55 Dodgers for a few years now, but it was not love at first sight. For the longest time I did not understand what the big deal was about a team that only won 1 championship. It wasn't until my friend dragged me to a card show (I had taken a break from collecting for a few years) in 1988 where I got to meet and talk to Duke Snider that I started drinking the Brooklyn koolaid. Add to that a few magazine articles and documentaries and I've become a true fan of this hard luck team that many times took the powerhouse Yankees to 6 and 7 games in the series, only to lose...except in 55.
I currently have 29 players/managers/coaches/front office out of 39 that I've identified to collect. All of the players are relatively easy to find, although the price for some of them, like Jackie Robinson, have been climbing steadily over the past few years.
These Dodgers are a lot of fun to collect and of all the teams I collect, they are the only team that I am not framing and matting together in one framed project. Instead, I am dedicating an entire wall in my memorabilia room to them.
Who else is collecting this great Dodger team? I'd like to hear what you have and what problems/stories you have in regards to collecting them.
Here's a couple of things I have that will hopefully start this thread going:
First is the autograph of Duke Snider that got me started.
Second is a photo of Ebbets field signed by 36 Brooklyn players including 7 from 55.
Last is a signed photo of Sandy Amoros making his famous game 7 catch.
