Unfortunately, there really are none for the serious pre-war vintage baseball collector. You will find some basic 50's & 60's Topps and maybe a couple of scattered T206's and the like but very slim pickings. I have been there at least once a year for the past five or six years.

If you like books and other publications, Willis Monie Books on Main Street is great.

Good point, Jeff. That's the one with really old, antique books on all subjects but they have a major section on baseball, correct?

There is an Antique shop near Oneonta, that has a large a selection of T-cards, Goudey's, Play Balls, etc.....and, other pre-war goodies.
It's approximately 15 miles before you arrive in Cooperstown when you exit Interstate 88 onto NY Rte. 28 (to Cooperstown). The owner, Don Flewelling, is a hobby veteran since the early 1970's. If you are interested I'll email you his Tel #. Have a great trip. TED Z |

thanks guys! back in the mid-90's there were a number of great shops up there, the town had a great buzz (even in the off-season). we used to visit Tom Catal (used to own mickey's place, and was one of Mantle's best friends). we became friendly with Tom, we'd spend hours in his shop talking with him during each cooperstown visit...great guy.
i'll check out the book store (i do believe i've been in there before). Ted- thank you, please PM me his number. much appreciated. Last edited by MVSNYC; 03-23-2012 at 12:56 PM. |
