I went 2 for 4 picking up SGC 40 T206s. Got pretty good deals on these two HOFs:

Nice cards, Erik.
I won the Demmitt and paid a bit much, but for some reason recently I've been really like the really beat-up T206's, and this was the last variation i needed.

I was hoping to win one of the Frederick Foto cards with back damage for my type-card collection for less than $150, but it wasn't to be.

I won the Mathewson.
I know I paid to much but just couldn't help myself. Only 65 to go. |

This was my first time participating in the Clean Sweep auction and I was very excited when I grabbed the t206 Lajoie for well below what I expected to pay... then I got the invoice... and realized that with the buyer's premium, shipping and insurance the card wasn't quite the bargain I thought and was quite relieved I didn't win the Cy Young. That being said I thought many of the cards went for about what they would go for on eBay which is surprising considering you have to pay an additional 17.5% buyers premium and $7-10 S&H. And why can you only pay by check or money order?

I've noticed that many of the same cards (that I would buy) from an auction house yield greater returns than eBay. I would guess the reason is simply that many of the auction house winners don't buy on eBay. |

Also, have you ever asked them to put '2 names' on the slip?

Never thought about asking them to be slabbed differently. I recall seeing some GAI (I think) slabs with that notation. |

I missed out on the 1947 Tip Top Bread Kell, which I believe had been languishing in Clean Sweep's for sale portion of the catalogue for quite some time, and eventually ending up selling for about what the sell price was, if I recall correctly. Tough card, and that one in VG-Ex+ had pretty good eye appeal.
Did win the 1953 Canadian Exhibits Williams, however, which I was very pleased to get, since I am a big-time Teddy Ballgame fan, and that card to me represents his return to baseball (37 games, 91 AB, 13HR's !!! and a .407 BA!!!!) in 1953, returning to play in August at age 35 with no spring training. In his book, My Turn at Bat, Ted modestly attributes that amazing performance to the pitchers being tired, having been through about 2/3's of a season, while he was fresh (yeah right--fresh from being a jet fighter pilot, crash landing one of his planes when the landing gear wouldn't function in flames, and suffering not too much earlier from pneumonia!).
