I picked up 4 Post cereal cards this weekend. Clemente, Kaline, Wilhelm and Martin. All are graded MINT 9, but they are graded by a company called FGS. The cards look like they could be between 8-9, I just don't anything about FGS.
I am not really into Post cards, I just happened to pick these up cheap. Should I send the Clemente to PSA and see how it grades? Are they worth anything graded by FGS?? Thanks in Advance. |

Well the bad news is the company is one of many fly by night grading companies and they mostly grade a lot of fakes or just overgrade real cards.
If your lucky the cards are real and can cover what you paid for them since they didnt cost a lot, granted on grading post cereal cards the complete outside lines must be visable or it will only grade an Auth. Post some scans of them and maybe the board can help, here's two 62 Post Clementes to compare with- ![]() ![]() |

Thanks for the information. Are having the outside lines visible to get a number grade a requirment for the 61 and 62 cards? I will try to post some scans later.

Nice looking Clemente card there. The "Red lines" vs "Blue lines" grading causes me to wonder: if one had a card that was cut from the box with about an eighth inch of white space beyond the outside lines, couldn't one theoretically shave the edges down to razor sharp - as long as the lines remained - just to get a higher grade? Or, does PSA have a way to detect that?

It's usually detectable, but difficult enough to be certain that I have doubts they spend much time on it.

All PSA and SGC look for on grading is that the complete lines are there for all hand cut cards in order for them to get a number grade. It matters not when they were cut, 40 years ago or 3 days ago.
Deken, yes all Post including 61 62 and 63 need complete lines, if not then no reason to grade them unless they are the 62 clemente blue line or you just want them in a slab. Last edited by smtjoy; 10-21-2011 at 09:26 AM. |
