I recently found a 55 Wally Post and a 56 Joe Black and Art Fowler in a scrap book at a garage sale. Does anyone have any info about these cards? I looked every where but I couldn't find much and I definitely couldn't find anyone selling these cards.
Any info would be greatly appreciated thanks. |

They are in the current edition of the Standard Catalogue of Baseball Cards under "K" along with a checklist and pricing info for each series.

The 2011 Standard Catalog lists the 55 Post in a range of $ 600-$ 2000 depending on condition, VG to NM. It lists the 56 Black at $ 65 to $ 225. I do not collect these so do not know how accurate these are. For older off beat Topps stuff, they can sometimes be way off the mark. If they are pasted in the scrap book so that there is glue or paper loss on the back, they might not even meet even the VG low end price standard

Thanks a lot. Yeah unfortunately the corners were taped to the scrap book so they have tape marks on the corners but corners are still very crisp though. |

Can you post scans of the cards? Even with the tape marks, it would most likely still be worth it to get the '55 Post graded. Even VERY low grade '55 Kahn's cards command a premium. From VCP:
PSA 3 Kluszewski $1,500 SGC 10 Kluszewski $411.25 SGC 20 McMillan $763.75 As for your '56's: PSA 1 Art Fowler $49.95 PSA 4 Ray Jablonski $72.28 PSA 1 Johnny Temple $21.38 Here's a scan of my '55 Post so people can see what it looks like: ![]() |

Thanks for the info Bob. I don't have a scanner so I took front front and back pics the best that I could.

The '55 Kahn's are very rare, IMO, and the '56's are certainly rare enough--it took me a number of years to find a '56 Frank Robinson (true rookie, PSA pop report of 9, last time I checked) with good eye appeal. That one only graded SGC fair, due to some back damage from being glued into a scrapbook, but the front had an EX+ appearance, and I am delighted with it. To me, with a rare card, eye appeal is much more important than technical grade. I'd love to have a '55 Kluzewski in any grade, but am only aware of two that have sold in recent years. One of those was totally trashed, but still brought in the $350-$600 range, to the best of my recollection.
Best of luck with your endeavor, Larry Last edited by ls7plus; 09-30-2011 at 01:53 PM. |
