Rough Cut

Do you:

a) Value a rough cut ABOVE a smooth cut
b) Value a rough cut LESS
c) Are neutral, doesn't hurt or help your opinion of the card
d) none of the above: depends on the card (year, co., etc.)

Mine is "a". What is yours? What does the overall marketplace think based on past sales? Thanks! -Pat

I vote for B, I just don't like my cards rough around the edges (pun intended). Although I could see the added value if the edges of your card can double as a hacksaw.

I'm just the opposite. I love rough cuts and will even pay a small premium.

d) Rough cut or not, by the time a card gets into my collection it's so beat to hell, that you usually can't tell the difference..

For modern cards though, obviously I'm looking for a card that looks somewhat pack fresh and not like factory scrap. So I guess I'd prefer a smooth cut.. Although, I will admit that the rough cut '73 OPC Gossage PSA 9 that somebody posted the other day was quite intriguing..

Rough cuts are ok to me if they're factory. Premium or not is a matter of how rough and what set.

Unless the wire OPC used was new and the blade on Topps cutter was dull then it's the other way around.

But the wires got dull very quickly and the blades didn't, so it's usually that way.
