Here's a "high end" PSA 5 and the opportunity to 'steal' this card. Only problem is you can barely make out the image on the card which, to some people other than Ray Charles, might be important.
http://cgi.ebay.com/1887-N172-Old-Ju...#ht_500wt_1357 Can I make a suggestion to the sellers who can't control themselves with their obvious lies, their misleading comments about value, prior sales, etc. -- get a f%$#@g job.

I wouldn't look twice at that card....something listed at that price MUST have great photos of the item.

I knew I'd seen that card somewhere before. It's in the B/S/T for $6000. I don't really see anything wrong with the listing. However, if you've got a BIN of $8,200, it might not be the best idea to say that it "has and SMR of $4000" in the listing. Also, as it was earlier pointed out, it does look miscut. Appearances can be deceiving though..

I think he's trying to sell it in both places. Thus the lower price here. Net54 discount.

Certainly nothing personal but when I clicked on the link it went to ebay....so that is why I moved it.
And I might add I just went back and put it back in the 19th century category. It was Jeff's link I clicked on ![]()

You know it goes both ways. As a seller I would be rich if I got a penny for every buyer who said my item was over graded and not worth crap and then offered me half of what I wanted.
Sure at some point talking up a card gets silly, but as a seller aren't you SUPPOSED to talk up your product :-) That being said not sure why you would like a lower SMR price when you want almost double for the card. Usually that goes the other way and SMR is usually way off, seems in this case they are way low... James G

I am so glad my eBay selling days are behind me. I felt like a dirty 80's dealer hawking 50 ct lots of Cory Snyder by the end. |

Let's ease up on Pete here. He's a first rate kind of guy and hasnt told any lies. He's just trying to sell a card. When you try and sell something, you always try and build it up to potential buyers.

Have I stumbled onto some sort of time vortex??? This thread reminds me of the good old days on Net54 when any post would lead to inflammatory dialogue and ultimately demerits, suspensions, lost friends, and creation of new pre-war forum websites. I'm as nostalgic as the next guy, but hopefully this thread will die a quick death.
Lovely day... |

My favorite worthless card is 1989 upper deck
Jerome Walton. They were actually selling for $12 When they first came out and my old man wouldn't let me have one. I was 8 so there was nothing I could do about it. Junior Felix was the man too. a quick ps, I had no issue at all with the original. You gotta write something in the description on eBay so you might As well pitch the card as best you can. |

So the seller took erroneous information from Goodwin's site, and used it for his sale. Why not use a primary source to see what Harry Wright's actual contributions to baseball were?
Also see that card has become a lot more valuable since the auction closed. Must be inflation. |

Barry-That's hilarious! When I first read the description my reaction was to think of Goodwin Auction descriptions, the only place where I recall seeing inaccuracies like that. I didn't realize that the description WAS lifted from a Goodwin Auction description.
It should be listed as the "Ghost of Harry Wright" variety. You can't see him, but you can feel his presence, kinda. Last edited by oldjudge; 06-30-2011 at 10:37 AM. |

I know this is off the subject of the OP, but once again, this card brings to light how ridiculous the grading scale is for OJs. This bugs me more than inflated descriptions. Yes, I know this issue has been raised before. I would pay more for a PSA 1 with a clear and rich image than for a seriously faded PSA 5. If that card was little more than a blank piece of cardboard, yet barely identifiable as Wright, it would have probably gotten the same grade.

When I originally saw the description on ebay, the overhand thing didn't even register with me. I couldn't seem to get past the mention of the $4000 SMR while trying to sell the card for $8200.
