I have a raw T206 Cy Young and it has very solid corners and centering. I'd guess it would be an SGC 60 or 70 based on those two review items.
However it has a crease that goes from the top to the bottom of the card. I don't have much experience with the grading process, so was curious how heavily weighted the crease will play into the cards overall grade. Would it take it down an an SGC 10 / 20 / 30 / 40? |

With a crease, probably the best you could hope for would be an SGC 30. Can you post a scan?

I would guess it also depends on the severity of the crease. Does it break the surface? Generally probably a 30 is the likely grade, but there are 40s with light wrinkles when all else is strong.

definitely looks like the plastic edges to a PSA slab.

It is hard to see from that scan, but if it is the crease that is breaking the surface at a couple of points on his shoulder, causing tiny spots of white paper to show through, I would say it will be a 30.
Nevertheless, it is a beautiful card in spite of the probable technical grade. JimB |

Nice spotting. Now that I'm looking at it, the crease goes from the top border, through the C on his hat, through the black brim, across his face, past his shoulder and all the way down to the bottom border.
Yeah, I would say it can't get more than a 30 "2" with a crease running through the face. A bigger scan would help and I would be surprised with a higher grade but stranger things have happened. I'm still wondering why we are guessing though, since it appears it is already graded. Perhaps the original question should have been: What grade would this PSA card cross over to if it went to SGC? you talking about another t206 young cuz that one's not raw...just subtract .5-1 grade from psa and you'll get the SGC grade as the rule of thumb around here.
if you're afraid sgc will see the psa grade and have a bias when grading...don't cuz they're pretty cool about stuff like that. if you want us to guess the grade then offer up some beater VG '71 topps common and we'll dance! |

A crease is pretty significant. The highest a card can get with a crease is a 1.5.
I sold this one a couple of years ago.....pretty nice '1' if you ask me! Last edited by bobbyw8469; 04-12-2011 at 05:17 AM. |

JimB & Jason - Thanks for the feedback – since I don’t have much experience with grading, I was wanting a high level of what to expect.
And FYI – this is a raw card. My scanner is old and has wrinkled some papers that I have scanned in the past. So I had an old, PSA case that I broke a card out of for another card and I laid the C. Young card in there to scan to eliminate any risk of the card getting messed up. Should have clarified this up front, but that is the reason there are PSA tabs in the scan. |

That is not correct. Your card didn't just have a crease - it also had severely worn corners. Not sure where you get the 1.5 from??? I own a PSA 4 T-206 with a 3/4 inch crease...otherwise exceptionally nice. I have lots of both PSA and SGC "3" cards with light creases. My SGC 30 = 2 Cy Young from E90-1 has heavy paper-breaking creases across the entire card near the top...but is otherwise quite a lovely card with a very clean reverse:

This crease was the most cost effective way for me to get a Lajoie for my '33 Goudey set. Otherwise the card has pretty nice visual appeal.
