"Uncle Doc" Ropp, Died at 94yo. Chemistry professor, College Dean and attorney. He had held some patents. Which I believe were agriculture related. Doc never married, had no children and never smoked or raised Hell. He loved gardening, which he'd spent long hours doing. Uncle Doc was greatly loved by all the nieces and nephews, though Mrs M's (A retired college librarian, that saved these cards from a yard sale, some forty years ago) husband considered Doc a pompous man.
He was born and raised in Martinsburg, W.Va. They lived in town, not out in the boonies. He received his bachelor's degree from WVU in 1921 and his master's degree from that school in 1923. He also received a doctorate from New York University in 1925 and later, a law degree. That explains the Southern connection, that Dave had mentioned in a prior post. This collection was also compiled in part, with the help of Doc's younger brother, of app 5yrs, Paul. Whom was not successful, a hellion in general and extreme opposite. Though still well-loved by the family. I'll try to add more as it comes in. Thanks, Steve Uncle Doc 1950ish, ![]() Postcard home. Great stuff, thanks for sharing.
Steve by chance did you keep a spreadsheet of all the cards and front back combos from the find as you were putting together lots? Be neat to know if any new combos or new confirmed cards were in the collection. Cheers, John |
