Posted is a link to one of the auctions. I don't know what to make of these. Anyone have any more info on how rare they are and how they were released? They don't seem to be as valuble as many other issues with the same players.

I think that these are from the "straight from the Printer to ebay" school. I have bought a few of players I collect. Nicely done and I think they get fairly expensive for what they are - 100% fantasy pieces.

Incidentally, the owner of Helmar brewery buys vintage cards on eBay. He bought a lower condition T206 Gabby Street from me a few weeks ago.
Edited to add: He's the one selling that card. Last edited by Anthony S.; 02-15-2011 at 06:05 PM. |

He states in the auction that he is making and aging them. Fantasy pieces, as Jeff said, but nice ones.

Here is a link to a thread from not too long ago. There was some discussion about these Helmar fantasy cards.

thanks for all the help. I'm glad I haven't bid on any. They're cheap compared to actual prewar stuff, but very very expensive for new art projects. Based on the prices they fetch, I must not be the only one that's been confused.

I don't think it's confusion, those look like cool and high quality hand-made pieces.

I have bid on two or three of them, then would wait a few weeks and bid on a few more. Yet to win one. I feel foolish when bidding, knowing what they are. But they do look neat. They will be a cataloging nightmare. A generation from now folks will wonder about 'em.

They may be coming from the last few members of the House of David - well known years ago for their barnstorming baseball teams.
See the link http://www.houseofdavidmuseum.org/sports/index.htm Scroll down about 2/3 of the way for a Helmar ad. Also, they seem to be coming from Michigan, albeit the east side of the state, rather than Benton Harbor on the west where the House of David is/was. Last edited by David W; 02-16-2011 at 08:19 AM.
