Recently acquired this rotting piece of paper. Despite the deplorable condition (it was reportedly found in the floorboards of a house) I liked it even before I noticed the number of “BALLS”… the 1890 copyright would be consistent with the tail end of the five-balls-to-a-walk era. The little dials are celluloid.
So, how common are 19th century advertising scorers? With 5 balls? |
