I have read in several prior posts the different methods of opening a slabed card. I realize it is somewhat dangerous to the card if not careful. That leads me to my next question: Once opened carefully, can you, is it possible to reseal, snap together, the slab and make it appear as never opened?
I am sure some of you think that I am trying to do something shady, or illegal, and keeping with the professional ethics of the hobby this sounds bad. But I have a personal reason to know if its possible to "open" & "close" a slabed card! Opinions and/or experience, please, Thank You! |

Because of my display preference I have had to bust out a few cards. I have found it to be easy and relatively safe. I have busted open maybe 10. Probably of those the slabs have survived maybe 70% of the time...you do it simply by prying with a screwdriver and separating the two pieces....if you do it a little at a time, there is only a little "frosting" and maybe a pry mark or two. I am confident that if my initial approach was to avoid damage to the slab, I could do it almost every time. I think a little work with some solvents could remove all evidence of frosting...maybe even just being judicious with the reapplication of glue...heat application would probably knock the issue right out. I am betting it would be easily accomplished.

since I'm new to collecting cards still. How often do you see a slab with a reprint or lower grade card inside for sale? Also, what is frosting? Thanks.

I do holders like this...I make them myself...and I am trying to get my whole set looking uniform, hence the reason for my prying open the slabs...probably not a great idea from an investment standpoint, but I'll probably keep these the rest of my life.... ![]() |
