A friend bought a card at a local card show and I'm trying to help him to determine what he has. My scanner is out of commission so I describe below.
It's a 7 1/2 by 4 inch card with a b/w picture of Babe Ruth, a full body shot of him standing holding a bat on his shoulder. On the reverse is printed Charlie's Bar and Grill 93 Star St. Brooklyn Bearer of this card receives one free drink Offer expires Oct. 12, 1927 Has anyone ever seen or heard of one of these? Thanks Ken Cohen |

Without seeing it, I'd still say it's either a fake of something that really exists or is a fantasy piece. We've had a discussion of a card bearing a similar reverse in the past, although the card specs may have been completely different. The thing that set off alarms for me is the ad for a bar. 1927 was during Prohibition. Very unlikely someone would openly flaunt the illegal sale of alcohol by advertising for a free drink.

Todd - Good catch on prohibition. I should have caught that.
Matt - I should have checked Ebay. I googled and came up with nothing. |
