Hi! Let's see anything Pre-1930 Los Angeles Angels, Vernon Tigers and Venice Tigers----programs, tickets, postcards, photos, equipment, schedules, autographs, etc. Thanks.

This is an original Panoramic photo of the prisoners playing baseball on July 4th 1915, wearing PCL hand-me-down uniforms. It came from the guard's estate. What's really great is all races could play baseball together.

This is a copy of a postcard I once owned....somehow I let it get away....the only view I've seen of the Tiger's home ballpark in Venice. The White Sox came through for an exhibition game March 26, 1913.

A little out of time, but here's a 1936 panorama of the Angels

not sure who they may be as there's nothing written on back of the postcard, although the man on the left bears marginally similar facial features to the guy seated second from left in the middle row, although he appears to be older in the second shown image.....the man on the right is wearing some type of ribbon although I am unable to distinguish what exactly is on the ribbon.
the two cards were purchased together, but that's no assurance that they originally came together, particularly since the team postcard has a silver-gelatin finish while the other does not.....due to the backdrop in the second image, I am moreso inclined to believe that it may have been taken at an LA-area amusement park or other local photo studio, perhaps showing two nobodies rather than actual PCL players wearing Los Angeles Angels uniforms, although I'm not 100% certain either way. The top LA Team PC is probably 1910 as there have been a couple of other PC's posted showing various teams in the same location. Here is my White Sox PC that has been dated to 1910 through player identification and when they were on the team. Same ballpark.
And here's the Portland Team. Same ballpark. Last edited by Jacklitsch; 05-30-2010 at 05:27 AM. |
