Folks, it's that time again.
Last time that I alerted this forum about the Chantilly show, as luck would have it, I got sick, and was not able to attend ... But, as luck and collector friendship would have it, Larrie Dean a dealer, called and alerted me about a T217 Mono held by another dealer ... that was looking for home. Thanks to Larrie, it became number 21 of a 25 card set. Talk about vintage, and I didn't even get to the Chantilly Show ... it makes me wonder ... what other cards did I miss out on? March 26 - 27 - 28 Location: Dulles Expo Center North Hall Show Hours: Friday 2:00pm-8:00pm Saturday 9:00am-5:00pm Sunday 10:00am-4:00pm Check in if you're going to the show. If you're setting up at the show ... give us a peekaboo of your table. Yes, you will find vintage at a show near the Battle of Bull Run (Manassas). Here's a dealers list. http://csashows.com/Dealer_Info/Dealer_Home.htm I'm hoping to be there Friday _ Saturday. ... See ya. Joe Pelaez Last edited by Potomac Yank; 03-19-2010 at 04:47 AM. I will be there Friday all day. As a matter of fact, we will be having a pre-show, get together for lunch on Friday at Sichuan Village restaurant at 14005 Lee Jackson Memorial Highway before the Chantilly, Virginia show starts. We will be there from about 11 am until about 1:45 pm. The restaurant is not far from the expo center. No need to RSVP. Just show up & join us for lunch.

Now I know why I didn't see you at the last Chantilly Show and haven't seen any posts from you on Net54 for some time - hope you are fully recovered from your illness.
I also picked up a T217-Mono (of Stein) at the last Chantilly Show - I assume from the same dealer (Wayne H.). I also got an E222-A.W.H. from this dealer. I'm glad you weren't there to snag these! ![]() Hope you will join us for lunch at Sichuan Village on Friday before the show starts. Val |

I will be set up there for the first time in about 20 years. I used to love the show but haven't been there for a long time. I needed something to do since I quit the Philly show.
Brockelman and Luckey Auctions will be represented at the booth so everyone is welcome to stop by to smack Scott around a bit. Don't worry, I will hold him still for you. looking forwarded to seeing everyone and please say hello and mention that you are a board member. Thanks Dan Mckee |

I will be set up at my usual location (across from Wayne H.). I look forward to seeing all the Net54 folks. I've picked up more T205s and T206s. Also, for the more modern collector I am breaking up the Exhibit (1947-66)collection I purchased from the recent Brockelman & Luckey auction...there were some nice "hard to find" cards. Larrie
P.S. I am willing to try helping other Net54ers even if it is not from my stock...thanks Joe! |

Forget about attending the Cardoholic meetings.
I'm a Cardoholic ... and it's OK to be challenged. ![]() Hey guys, I might be a little busy for the pre show get together, but I'll try to give it a shot ... if not, I'll catch all you Sickos at the show. Jim Rivera ... That's a great Back image site ... looking forward to meeting up with you, and Jim Jr again on Saturday. Dan McKee ... Welcome back to the Chantilly Show. Don't be too surprised if you see more Vintage dealers heading towards the area of the First, and Second Battle of Bull Run/Manassas. The show is not just an autograph show. Having been to many shows, cross country during the "80's, the show is not a Willow Grove show, but nowaday's ... What show is? During the last few years, this show has been re- attracting (my word) more vintage from dealers, and walk ins. The area is being rediscovered, and you just don't know what you're going to come up with. Looking forward to two things. Meeting up with the guy that I got a damn good looking T206 Washington Elberfeld for my beater set a few years back (you) ... and vintage dealer Scott Brockelman. Val Kehl ... Glad to hear that you picked up a T217 (Stein) Mono, plus an E222- A.W.H. at the last Chantilly show ... to anyone familiar with the sets, we're talking about two of the toughest sets on the planet ... What a country. ![]() My absents from the Chantilly show was due to a short illness. My absents from the internet was due to an illiterate, and computer/high tech challenged mind. I did not connect my computer in 1998, it was done by my now 94 year old uncle. He used a second phone line for the connection. Sometime in early Feburary, Verizon suggested that I might save some money by getting rid of the rarely used second line. Nowadays if anyone says that they can save you some money ... you listen. Yup ... I listened, and this computer illiterate disconnected himself from the entire planet. Talk about going through a cold turkey, and the shakes. Val, I'll see ya at the show. ![]() Susan, and Don Ortolani, AKA Don Otto ..... Don is an old school dealer, and extremely knowledgeable. You never know what you'll find at his table. Larrie Dean ... Thanks again amigo. Asides from vintage cards, I enjoy talking about Machu Pichu, and other interesting sites with you. See you at the show. Hope to see all of you at the show. Glad to hear you're OK, Joe, missed you last time. We have much to discuss, my friend. And welcome to beautiful Chantilly, Mr. McKee. I don't know what we did to deserve you coming south, but whatever it is I hope it's not the last time. I think everybody on the board going to the show should buy at least one card from Dan just to keep him coming back. Except me, I'm not a card guy and therefore exempt from my rule, but I will give him a great big hug unless he pays me not to. Anyway, it's been getting lonelier and lonelier for us vintage guys out there lately, but maybe the tide can actually shift back our way. Many thanks to you, Joe, for pumping things up, maybe we don't have to just sit back and witness the demise of the vintage show after all.

I didn't want to start another Chantilly thread on the main board, but I do want to point out that SGC will be making an appearance at this show for the first time in years (if ever). Michael Goldberg will be set up Friday through Sunday accepting submissions. Please consider bringing some cards to drop off with him if you're in the area and able to make the show. Hopefully a successful show this time will lead to repeat appearances in the future.
As always, please feel free to call or email with any questions. Thank you, Brian Dwyer 1-800-742-9212 |

"Hopefully a successful show this time will lead to repeat appearances in the future."
* A Successful show depends on how you look at it. To a vintage collector, and those familiar with the T217 Mono, and E222 A.W.H. sets ... finding one translates to success. The Chantilly show is not just an authgraph show, the above vintage cards were acquired at the Chantilly Show ... Welcome Aboard. Joe Pelaez |

I just got home from the show. We had a good lunch at Sichuan Village (thanks Alan for organizing). The show is getting more and more prewar. Ken Cohen, Roger Neufeldt, Scott Brockelman, Dan McKee and others all had great stuff in their showcases. I picked up a T204, three T210s and an E100.
Lots of very rare stuff was there. This show is much better than it was a couple years ago in terms of available material. Andy |

The show is not just an autograph show, it's getting more, and more pre-war.
Not only did they have more interesting vintage on their tables, but dealers like Larrie Dean, Don Otto (Ortolani), Ken Cohen, Roger Neufeldt, Scott Brockelman, Dan McKee, Hank Thomas, Ron Barrett, Cy and others, were a gas to talk to as I walked around checking out the tables. For instance, as I approached Larrie Deans table, he stated, "It's only one and a half hours into the show, and I'm already having the best Friday start in years." ... I said, "Larrie, that's what I want to hear." Roger Neufeldt walks up to me an says, "I was talking to Lew Lipset, and he wants me to say Hello" ... I said, "That's funny, I was talking to Mark Macrae, and he wants me to convey a Hello to you." ... we both smiled. We later got to share some great by gone years collecting stories. I've been wanting to meet Dan Mckee, and Scott Brockelman for quite some time ... It was worth the wait. We actually had a pow wow about the old collecting ways, and days. A good time was had by all that gathered around. Love you guys, it was a pleasure meeting you. The meetup with Hank Thomas, was as fantastic as usual ... All is well, and there will be peace in our time. ![]() You can't beat Ron Barrett's sense of humor ... you gotta luv it. Folks, I love the hunt of the card like everyone else, but we have to admit, we can't beat the fun exchanges between collectors, and dealers at a vintage show. Joe Pelaez |

Yup, this is the third Chantilly pick up within less than a year by some lucky critter. ... How often do you see an E222 AWH at ANY show?
I picked up four T210's on Saturday that I needed, one from Ken Cohen, and three from Larrie Dean. Thank you guys. The ones from Larrie Dean was a case of just plain dumb luck, and good timing. Met Jim Rivera in the early part of the show, we met at the Dan McKee/Scott Brockelman table ... A good time was had by all. We walked around and I introduced him to a couple of dealers that he had not met before. To say that the place was crowded, is an understatement. It was after he left for home, I made a my final run through the show. I stopped by Larrie's table, and he was having another busy day. He had a walkin in front of him, and that walkin had some cards in front of him. ... The cards belonged to the walkin. Aside from some S74 silks there were about 25 raw T210's, and the condition of the T210's were beautiful. I couldn't tell the names, nor the series, but I did spot two orange borders. Larrie, and the walkin were in a process of trying to work out a new ownership of the cards. He looked up and spotted me, he knows that I am into T210 cards. At that point, I wished that I could go into a stage of invisibility. I'm not one to interfere with a deal between a walkin, and a dealer, no matter how much I might want the card. ... It's his paid for table. I am not a religious person, and I didn't know if I need any of those beautiful cards ... Yet, I found myself, lookig up, and on bended knees ... praying that Larrie would get the cards. ![]() He got them ... They were from series 1-2-3-4-5 ... I found one from series 3-4 and 5 that I needed ... I didn't need the two orange borders. It's mostly about timing, and dumb luck. ![]() What a country, what a show! Joe P. |

I agree, a good show -had a great time at Scott and Dans table-the best vintage table in the room by far. There were other vintage in the room and a good bit of that was in Philly-this show may be migrating south.
We got to look through one of Joes binders-amazing. My only pickup was e90-1 Chase-just wanted that card for some time and finally got it. Not sure what it cost to get in Philly but the cost for this one was $5.

I was there yesterday with my son browsing around. I walked out empty handed as I was only there to pick up some T205s. My son was a little more successful and brought back an Ernie Davis and Wilt Chamberlain. Although he doesn't have the passion for baseball, it is great that he enjoys collecting and is something that he and I can do together. That was the first show that I had been to since the mid 80s and now I can't wait for the National.
I'm glad that I had the opportunity to meet and chat with Michael Goldberg from SGC and drop off several cards to be graded as well. It was nice to finally put a face with the name. r/ Frank |

Just got off the phone with Joe - sounds like that show was great.
Too bad it seems there are no really "good" shows in the Northeast anymore. I have heard the Willow Grove/Ft Washington/Reading show has dried up; alhtough I have not been to one in a while. Btw, deperately seeking a E222 - burnt, puncholes, trimmed, eaten, laundry washed....well I think you guys get the point. Regards, Mark mrios@hotmail.com |

I enjoyed myself there as I normally do. Great to catch up with everyone. Joe hung out some at my table, always fun. He was kind enough to break out his binder with his Monos, T210s, and Contentneas. A young collector friend of mine was there with me and was flabbergasted at the sight of Joe's cards.
I was able to pick up a Victory Tobacco card from a fellow Net54er. Ken |

Leon, you've gotta get your ugly puss with beatty eyes over to the area of the Battle of Bull Run. It was all new to them ... Everyone on both sides were greenhorns. It was a novelty, even for the non combatants. On the day of the occasion, some men and women dressed in their best fineries, and trotted out in their carriages to have a picnic at the event. ![]() The Rebels had other plans ... the picnic turned into a rout, and everyone headed for the hills. ..........
