Just received a "Little Poison" Waner card, that's my vote. I would be interested to hear some others, especially pre-war ones.

"Lady" Baldwin springs to mind.
"Phenomenal" Smith was a pretty cool one, too. |

William Edward Conroy.
"Conroy picked up the nickname "Widow" for his solicitous concern for younger boys on his sandlot team and was known as "Wid" all his long life in organized baseball." I know it's post-war, but I admit to a certain fondness for Walt "No-Neck" Williams. : ^ ) Last edited by brickyardkennedy; 12-17-2009 at 06:21 PM. Reason: Adding something. |

Some of my favorites are:
Bob Ferguson: Death to Flying Things (which has been picked up and reused by Seattle's announcers for Ichiro Suzuki - and probably others in other venues) Big Poison and, of course, Little Poison for the Waners Art The Great Shires - because he really wasn't Arlie Latham: The Freshest Man on Earth Wee Willie Keeler (and, again, I think Ichiro): Hit 'em where they ain't The Human Rain Delay, Mike Hargrove, was painful to watch Following Hargrove, Whitey Ford (The Chairman of the Board) seems fitting Walter Boom Boom Beck Amos Rusie: The Hoosier Thunderbolt and, Wahoo Sam Crawford These are only ten of dozens more favorites that could be recounted! |
