I have some PSA graded...some show date as "1958-61" and yet others are "1958-62"...please see scans. Which is correct?...the PSA pop report shows NOTHING for "1958-62" yet I have a few slabbed with that date.
Thanks- Claude ![]() ![]() |

Many of these are impossible to date unless you purchase them as a complete team set (normally 12).

Type 1 Jay Publ. pix packs, with name, city and team in sans-serif type face, were issued 1958-1961; Type 2 pix, with serifed typography, were issued 1962-1965.
Many teams and some other issuers produced very similar photo packs in that era, but Jay issue are always 5" x 7" and always have the city in the caption.

In 1965; the founder and owner of Jay Publishing perished in a plane crash
And Bob (and others) ; I'm going from memory here; but I believe this was the crash he died in http://www.freebase.com/view/en/amer...saster/victims IIRC; he was John Jackson on this list. If I'm incorrect; please let me know and I'll fix this Rich |

This 1952 Yankees yearbook was probably the 1st venture into sports related publications by Jay Publishing (NYC).
It was one of 14 major league team yearbooks produced by Jay in 1952. ![]() TED Z Last edited by tedzan; 10-18-2009 at 08:34 AM. |

Anyone know if "Jay" published the "team" issued sets as well? Does anyone happen to have Pirate yearbooks from 1955-1970 that would be willing to do some scans so I can try to narrow down years of some of the pirate photos from those years? Thanks.

Although some are in the Jay style -- Jay Publishing ceases in 1965 with what I believe Is the date of the air crash which killed him. Nothing Jay Publishing after 1965

So, is the label wrong on the Bauer since it says "1958-62" since the two series listed in the SCD are "1958-61" and "1962-65". Maybe it's just a labeling screw up by PSA???

If you are satisfied with a date range of 4-5 years for your photos, then Bob's information is 100% correct. As I mentioned earlier in this thread, the only way to date them to a specific year of issue is through a complete sealed team set (once it is opened, of course, photos could be swapped out and replaced with others and still comprise a "team set").

I have done a huge amount of research on the Pirates sets from 1957 - 1968. I have a number of them pinned down to a much narrower range and some as yet still unidentified. Anyone know if they used the same images in the yearbooks from the same year?

I don't know much about these, but I have a White Sox pack of 12 that still has the original bag. These were issued in 1961.
