The 1st part of this quiz is easy.....
The tough part of this quiz is....is this a unique trio ? Or, can you name 3 others that have achieved this fame ? ? TED Z |

I think the easy one is Williams, Yaz and Rice in left for the Bosox.

While I'm trying to think of others, I'll try Earl Combs, Joe DiMaggio, and Mickey Mantle. I know Chapman played more games than Combs in center in 1935, and maybe 1934, but Combs was still in center some of the time....

I probably don't understand the question.
All three of these left fielders were inducted in 1945 Clarke, Delehanty and O'Rourke P.S. Rice is not in the Hall (yet) Last edited by Jacklitsch; 07-18-2009 at 09:18 AM. |

Ben Chapman was succeeded by Joe DiMaggio. STEVE M Your trio did not directly succeed each other on the same team....as Yaz followed Williams and Rice followed Yaz. Best regards, TED Z |

George Kelly was at 2nd for the New York Giants for 108 games in 1925.
In 1926 the Giants had Frankie Frisch at 2nd in 127 games. And Rogers Hornsby was at 2nd for the Giants for 155 games in 1927. This surprises me... not Frisch and Hornsby, but Kelly. I'd always thought of him as a big first baseman. I'm surprised he was at second base. |

Is Williams, Yaz and Rice supposed to be the answer?
If so Rice is not in the Hall, at least not until induction next week. |

Ted can you clarify the question? I don't understand why Williams Yaz Rice is not correct.

SAYHEY24 gave the correct answer....which, will be true when Rice is officially inducted next week.
The real question is....have any other trio of ballplayers achieved this exact fete of directly succeeding each other on a given position that are in the HOF ? TED Z |

Let me try another grouping
Brooklyn's shortstops.... Leo Durocher, 1939, 113 games at short Pee Wee Reese, 1940 to 1942 Arky Vaughan, 1943, 99 games at short I think there are more trio's than we suspect... |

Thanks for this. In all the times I've looked at the Macmillan Baseball Encyclopedia and now www.baseball-reference.com, I never noticed Kelly played 2B for significant games. |

Hey you Trivia guys, you're slipping tonite.
I thought one of you would get this one. Anyhow, there are more such HOF "trio connections" out there. TED Z |
