Anyone seen one of these before? It's on thin cardboard stock. I believe it to be period and think it's probably a premuim given at the ball park or elsewhere....It's about 4 by 2 1/2 ...thanks much

Nice.
I've not seen that, or anything similar for another player. Wikipedia says that place in St. Louis went by the name of "League Park" from 1899 through 1910. But as Rhett cogently points out below, it has to be 1912. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robison_Field Last edited by FrankWakefield; 05-03-2009 at 08:34 PM. |

Leon, I saw that when on ebay, and I too have little doubt that it is vintage, especially with the Union logo at bottom front. It was likely an item given away at "Ed Konetchy Day" at the ballpark. It was a fairly common occurance in those days to have benefits (like the Doc Powers Day PC's you sometimes see) or appreciation days for very popular players/managers, the latter is likely the case here. It was probably handed out on the date on front to the attendees of the game.
The piece is obviously from 1912, as per the back -Rhett

Thanks for the follow up and confirmation. I agree. You and I collect a lot of the same type material. I love seeing stuff I have never seen before. Here is another promotional card from 1916....
