Since I find myself with a weekend or two free of youth baseball due to my son’s sprained shoulder and am feeling like I should start a blog without actually wanting to do so, I whipped an overview of Topps Stamps from the 40's through the 70's. |

Bob, I had hopes you might have the 74 pack or wrapper-thanks-that's a toughie. Do you know if there was also a retail pack or just the test version you have? |

David....I have the Ruth and Gehrig, and a progressive proof of the Gehrig as well. If you want color copies let me know. I have one of the 55 Stamps...unfortunately it is Don Mossi, ears and all |

I just received a message from someone indicting they had once seen a '55 Aaron stamp. When checking the big book listing I found a missing # in the checklist (the set description mentions leaving gap but I think that was easier to do thn fix the database). |

The numbers in parentheses for the 1955 Topps stamps are just a convenience; perhaps if I was doing it over today, I'd use the actual card numbers parenthetically. |

Bob-that is a photo I would like to see. Do you recall if it was 100 or 110 cards in size? I believe Topps went from 100 to 110 card sheets between '54 and '55 and that photo might hold the answer. |

Great info Dave. Here's an ad from a publication dated July 5th, 1949, which may help in determining a release for this set. |

Jeff-yes that timetable of July '49seems spot on. Magic Photos are probably a couple of months after that. This is the year Topps started putting cards with gum and it's amazing how tiny they were. I still marvel at the profitability of one cent packs from the era when you think about the supply and distribution chain: |

I agree Dave - you'd think they'd need to have those sets on the market for years before turning a decent profit on them. |

OK, it becomes clear-that HF ad is for the 1st series of 126. The ref I have for the second series must be the one after the X Ray's. My bad and thanks for clearing that up-Xmas 48 would work as it's after the '48 WS, which cards are in the first series of Magic Photos. The "Topps Hits Again" threw me. |

Here's a follow up from an issue dated Feb 1st, 1949 - the quantities of distribution are interesting. Anyone have a scan of the 5-cent pack? |

Interesting piece Jeff. Five Cent Packs-I'd like to see how the Magic Photos came on those-I do not ever recall seeing strips of them so it's a curiosity for sure. |

May have been 5 or 6 1-cent packs cello'd together - or maybe never existed at all. |
