Long time lurker

My father and I have been long time collectors, never have had cards graded before but my father wanted to try. The grades were pretty much expected, the only disappointments were the E90-2 Honus Wagner, N173 Dell Darling, and the E90-1 Buster Brown (did not meet minimum size), feel Wagner was better than the grade received. Will probably ask for a review. Can't wait for the National in Cleveland, live in Steubenville about 2.5 hours away. Well here's the submission. Congrats, Rich.

I'm going to type this quickly before lightning strikes me, but I think it's pretty exciting when someone receives his or her very first submission back from a grading company. I compare it to kind of like opening your first pack of cards of the season. (Back when collectors still opened packs at the start of a season, of course.)

Probably for the same reason that most people have moved to indoor plumbing.

The grading was sometime my father really wanted to do. We started collecting together in 1976, I was in 6th grade. The first card show we went to was in Philadelphia in 1977, my father was the last bidder out on a 1952 Topps Set at that show, winning bid $950.00, oh well!

Rich...welcone...you and your dad must have a nice collection! I've been collecting about as long as you have...primarily vintage for almost 20 years now. I've only had cards graded for potential resale...because that's primarily where the value is in these services...resale.

I'm sure you and your dad truly love your cards the way most of us do...so ultimately the slabs mean nothing...to me!

Happy collecting...I'd love to see some pics of your cards!

Congrats on your first submission, and welcome to the board. As you can see from the responses you got, this board has had an ongoing debate about the relative merits of grading. (Fortunately, the board has come down, almost unanimously in favor of indoor plumbing.)

Pay no attention if a skirmish breaks out in your thread. You didn't cause it. And it won't be settled today.
