I thought everybody might enjoy some good news about the hobby. It seems to be loaded with more than its share of honest and very patient people.

About a month ago I won, from JacSports, a T206 PSA 6 Shad Barry in an eBay auction. After waiting a couple of weeks I contacted the owner, John Cherpok, to ask if it had been mailed. It had been paid for Nov 7, mailed the next day. John gave me the trace number through the USPS, but nether of us could find it. Finally, John suggested that we treat it as lost and that, though he would take a financial hit on it, he'd be glad to give a full refund.

THE NEXT DAY, yesterday, I received a note in my town mailbox. It seems somebody back in the bowels of the PO had been collecting something they called "overflow" since Nov 15, though there were many days since then when the box was empty. Sure enough, in the overflow bag was my card, along with several (now overdue) bills.

Of course I emailed John, and he was as gracious as if nothing at all had gone on. So to JacSports, and all the rest of the sellers out there who work patiently and politely, a vary big THANKS.

And to The US Post Office in Davidson, NC ..... PPPPPPPHHHHHHHHHHHTTTTTTT!!!!

Bob

I have been dealing with John (Jacsports) for many years and only have good things to say about him. I have repeatedly said it, and still believe, that 99% of the folks in the hobby are good people. The other 1% are idiots...

This hobby really is full of great people and its nice to hear some of these positive stories.

Take the B/S/T. I've sent money and cards to individuals I've never met on the faith I'll receive items in return and I've always been satisfied.

Bob, I don't mean to be the grinch here, but if you would pick up your mail everyday you wouldn't have this problem. Remember- when you filled out the paperwork for the PO box you agreed to pick up the mail every day, and if you receive more mail than your box will hold on a regular basis then you agreed to rent a larger box. The clerks in your office are following a nationwide policy that has been in place for the last 100 years.

Please don't blame the Postal Service for your problem.

Rick

Not disagreeing with the precise points you made, Rick... But additionally, on days when there was room in the box, or the box was empty, shouldn't some of the overflow have been jammed in there??

Some days I get a key to get mail from a larger keyed box. Some days I get a yellow card. The Post Office doesn't have a PO Box big enough to accommodate some of the packages I receive.

Glad we got some vinegar sprinkled on an otherwise positive thread.

When I signed up for a PO box, the size I wanted was not available. All they have was the next smaller size. Sometimes the size of your PO box is in the hands of the PO. I also get the yellow cards or a key to a larger box when I have large packages or there are too many letters to fit.

Not to hijack but I've also lost a package or 2 in the past couple months (wife lost 2) that show by delivery confirmation to be delivered to my post office. When I ask for an explanation, the clerk says they must have put the key in the wrong box. Gee, thanks so much! I do realize there is a ton of mail that gets delivered correctly, but when a mistake is made, why does the customer get the shaft? I was told in each case, there is nothing I can do because I did not purchase insurance.

To all, I apologize for the negativity. Us Postal workers get grouchy around Xmas time! happy.gif

Bob, I'm glad that you received your card, and I will remember your positive statements if I get the chance to purchase from JacSports.

Rick

Rick, I want you guys to have positive thoughtwaves all of the time!!

It's a mess of a job. Hang in there. The postal workers here do a great job, I like seeing them, they take good care of me, and I try to take them something this time of year.

Frank - The vinegar (very mild compared to what we normally see on the board) in this thread originally came from Bob, not Rick. I go to the Davidson post office just about every day, and those folks do a great job (in my opinion).

Thanks for all the comments.

As information, I do go to the PO every day, sometimes twice. (In our little town it's the only way to see people.) My point was that I had received no notice between Nov 15 and Dec 2 that there was any mail in overflow. If I'd known, I'd have asked for it far earlier.

Erland -- I quite agree. Ordinarily the Davidson PO is beyond first rate. We are very fortunate that the desk people are as helpful and gracious as they are. But when I asked, even they were at a loss to know why there was no prior notice.

And on that un-Grinchlike note, may I wish all the members of the board a truly blessed Christmas?

Bob
