interesting. what initially got me curious was looking at greg maddux's stats and seeing his 19-2 in 1995. incredible. |

The best record during the season for a pitcher without a loss was 18-0 for Roy Face, but he lost his last decision. |

ah 18-1 in 1959. that is really impressive too but he threw less than 100 innings. i was thinking of starting pitchers but that is a great season too. |

Randy Johnson finished a season 20-2, the best percentage for a twenty-game winner. Roger Clemens was once 20-1 late in the season, but lost his last two starts. |

What would be impressive to see is Cliff Lee of the Indians, who is currently 13 - 2, end the season at his projected pace of 21-3.....for a last place team! |

The most amazing year for me was Steve Carlton's 1972 Season in which he won 27 of the team's 59 wins with a sub 2.00 ERA. Not being a Phillie nor a Carlton fan this one to me is just impressive. I do remember Face's season in 1959 and if I remember correctly his ERA wan't great and he blew a number of leads in which the Pirates came back and won the game. |

Earl Hamilton set a record of sorts by going winless in 1917 (0-9) and undefeated (6-0) in 1918. Not a lot of decisions but kooky stats nonetheless. |

23-4, 2.07, with all the hitters on roids. |

I like Steve's recollection of Johnny Allen's 15-1 in 1937. He gets forgotten... That was the year the old rookie Jim Turner won 20 games. |

Also in Guidry's 1978 season he had 9 shutouts and his ERA was almost 2.00 lower than the league average. |
