What is an accurate price range for this PC? Does anybody have an example they could post? Is there anything I should be aware of with these?

I should add that I have tracked down some older past auction results for these PCs. They seem pretty low, and am also curious if the recent postcard craze has positively affected this issue as well.

Jodi, the 1907 Tigers Dietsche PC's are VERY readily available and probably will not be affected too much by the current market upswing. A presentable raw copy of the Donovan PC should cost between $30-100 depending on condition (and not including high grade graded examples. Please note that while 1907 Tigers Dietsche PC's are pretty common, those with 1908 and 1909 dates are tough, along with the Cubs Dietsche PC's.

Did Donovan appear in the later issues that you mentioned? If so, what are the distinguishing characteristics between issues?

Jodi, I believe Donovan was produced in the 1908 set as well. The distinguishing characteristics of the 1908's & 1909's are: 1.) the date on the back of the PC. 2.)The later series of the Tigers had the players last name written on front.

I would estimate a 1.5x premium for the "latter-day issues". Also, not all cards in the 1907 set are easy. The Cobb fielding is a toughie.

I follow this set fairly closely since I have most of the 1907 Tiger set I think prices have come down in the last year for the 1907 Tigers. One of the whales bought a bunch a while ago for astronomical prices.

There were a number of raw examples in nice condition that recently sold on Ebay for what I thought were very low prices. I think the only common that brought $50.00 was the Donovan that I was bidding on.

As luck has it, the only 07 Tigers that I still need are both Cobbs and an unused Donovan. I don't think any are particulaly difficult other than the Cobb fielding.

I think it is hard to say what the premiums are on the 1908 and 1909 Tigers since they come up so infrequently. I picked up a PSA 4 08 Cobb recently on Ebay for around $550.00. I wasn't sure if the low price was because the 08 is not technically a rookie card or because prices are trending downward. As for the other 1908-09 examples, I have Moriarty (PSA 5), McIntyre(postally used) and Summers (postally used). Anyone have any other 08's for sale?? Also, I think the 08 Tigers that appear in the 07 set command a lesser premium than the 08 Tigers that do not appear in the 07 set.

Robert Silverberg did an Old Cardboard article on the Dietsche set a while back that was quite valuable.

Thanks to all of you for the insight!

Personally, it never fails to make me chuckle when one or more of the Bruces lets us know that "they" have forgotten more than most of us know. As a youngster, I knew a great deal about these vintage issues, and, much like Bruces, have forgotten most of it! Whilst still knee-high to a grasshopper, I decided to focus all of my attention towards vintage autographs, thereby forgetting a lot of what I had learned in the card department. Unlike the group of one, however, I am not bashful in extending a heartfelt "thanks" to the folks who have been kind enough to give me a crash course in this issue. Remember: The best way to educate yourself is to question those who know more than you. Thanks again!
