I mainly just collect cards that happen to catch my eye. I usually don't have specific goals in collecting although I occasionally put together a set (usually modern). However, when it comes to vintage, I just decide on a player that I want to buy a card of. Then I look at pics of their cards and try to find one that's both in my budget and appealing to me. A t-206 Ty Cobb is on my want list now. But I've decided that it has to be one where he's holding a bat. The red background portrait just doesn't do it for me. Ty Cobb needs to be holding a bat . Does anyone else decide which card to buy based on the player's pose in the picture? |

In an effort to avoid being indecisive, I try to get both a portrait and action pose. |

The pose is almost as important as the player pictured, and had influenced my purchases MANY times... |

I don't own a Cobb, but I did decide recently that if or when I get one, it has to be one with a bat. Just tonight I looked at one where he's wearing a glove and thought, "Nope, it's got to have a bat." I feel the same way about Ruth. For most players, though, I'm happy with a any good action pose ... |

I'm the opposite... Of the 4 t206 Cobb's, the portrait is my favorite. For Ruth, any card of him with a glove pitching in a Red Sox uniform will do. |

I prefer a full-face view of the player, which eliminates cards such as the E93 Bender and even worse, Frank Chance showing his "buttisimus". Also, the card must not show the wrong player (none of the infamous Cy (Irv) Young E98s, etc..., and T3 Baker (Barry)). Finally, I don't want the photo to be so close-up that you can see every zit on the player's face. |

I really like that Dutch Zwilling. Zwilling, second to Benny Kauff, might have been the Federal League's biggest surprise star. |

Aesthetics play a big part in what I collect. That includes pose, color, the degree to which it captures the era, etc. |

I thought CJ's were the only cards picturing Federal League players in Federal League uniforms. I just noticed Zwilling is wearing a Chicago Whales uniform. Neat! |

That Leach is from the E93 Standard Caramel Set. It is card #20 out of 30. |

Absolutely the pose matters to me. Many times I have had groups of cards so got to pick out which one(s)I would keep for my type set. I think I had about 10-15 D310's and besides Weaver (for obvious reasons)it all came down to the pose...I kind of liked this one... |
