Besides the one that ended last night, we know more are to come. With 17 of these altogether is the seller leaving money on the table by putting them all on ebay? At least thats my understanding...that none were going to any major auction house. I would have expected the one last night to have gone a bit higher. Opinons? |

They are pretty rare and 17 won't saturate the market, but if they were mine I would have staggered them over a period of time. |

I agree Barry...staggering them over a 3-4 year period may have been better. I would also say they should have been sent to SGC. I'm not sure if prices would be higher if they were SGC graded, but I think myself I would have put in even a bit higher of a snipe had the cards already been graded. The Bates is a PSA 3, but that obviously doesn't necessarily translate to an SGC 40 as we've seen so many times before. |

I also wouldn't doubt that once we see a Wagner, Speaker and the likes hit auction that there is a good chance some of those cards won't see the light of day again depending on who the lucky buyers are. |

Nice pick up Dave. Personally...I think dumping all 17 or so of them onto the market all at once will diminish returns slightly. Similarly to the cobb/cobb cards a few years ago...and all the t4 obaks that were flooded onto the market in lipset's auction a few years ago. I'd space them out over a few years...as has been recommended. Unless...of course...some "whale" tries to win them all to go after the set. |

Unless you are the seller, why does it matter? |

I was underbidder to your snipe. I figured with 16 more hitting the market (Ciccote currently on Ebay) and potentially a handful more in Mastro/REA/Sloate, I did not want to bid too much at this point...although, more insight would definitely lead to more refined bidding patterns. I would have potentially bid a lot more, for instance, had I known which 14 other cards he was going to be auctioning, as well as of which two he has doubles. |

When comparing the ebay price to major auction prices, don't foget to factor the juice (minus ebay fees) in, since the seller only cares about the part he takes home. That said, this is exactly one of those times when the expertise of a major auction house in terms of a selling strategy would be beneficial. |

Don't know whether Hunt is considered a "major" auction house but the price Dave paid is right in line with the two card lot that just sold. An SGC 40 and an SGC 20 sold for combined $3,100 without the juice. I think the Speaker went for $3,600 without the juice. |

There are 3 Speakers and singles of the other 14 according to the SCD article. |

As far as conditon the seller told me the Bates was "near" the top of what he had. |

I got blown out of the water on the Cicotte last night. I thought my $2525 snipe had a fighting chance....geez. I don't think the seller could have done any better putting this one up in an auction house. |

You did the right thing selling on the BST. Way too risky selling the card on ebay only two weeks after the purchase on ebay. |
