David- Thanks, I missed that thread over in the BST. I guess the card is legit, I mean from the standpoint that it is a real card. I guess if I had ever owned a $20,000 T206 I would have known better. It somehow doesn't look like my SGC 30 |

They have now suckered in Bidder #3, unless this is a large scale fraud operation as he does have a few bids with this seller previously (presumably under the last ID). How does this not fall under the category of criminal activity? |

It's not criminal if the seller has the card and sells it to the high bidder. I say "more likely" than not this guy doesn't own this card....given what I said in my post. Could it be for real? Sure.....but I would be very surprised if it is a real auction..... |

Now the current high bidder, bidder 5 at 1525.00 also has zero feedback, just like bidder 2. Wonder how high this card will be shilled???? |

I owned this green portrait Cobb myself recently. I consigned it to the last REA auction and it sold for $17,625. |

He probably printed it out in color, cut it out and then took a picture of it at an angle. |

The current seller's image is a bit grainy, which I think is another "sign" that this auction is fishy. One of the board members said he emailed the seller to ask for a new scan with a piece of paper and ebay ID written next to the card. If produced,(with a non grainy image) guess that would prove he physically has the card. But, I don't think that will occur. If the auction goes to the end, the winner should bring cash along with law enforcement to make the exchange in person. Anyone out in Indy want to make some money recording the event, I'd pay 20 bucks(so would others) to see a video of "the exchange". |

Now that's what I mean! Look at Eric's card, gorgeous and looks 100% real. Then look at the caption on the ebay one and the borders, etc. It looks like a reprint. I don't think this is the same card! These old eyes aren't what they used to be but they look different to me... |

Bob - as fake as it may look, the telltale sign for me is that little brown dot to the right of Cobb's head. It is on both cards so I'm sure it is the same card. |

I've only ever owned one PSA, so the card holder around the card has that frosted look. But isn't it interesting that behind the card is black. The rest of the area beyond the card holder is white. My guess is he took the image from the site, then used either perspective or distort in photoshop to make it look like it is leaning. Then he had to add additional background to the photo, or just let the program fill it in white. |

Living here in Indiana, I emailed the seller requesting an in-person pick-up if I were fortunate enough to win his auction. He emailed back saying that Ebay told him he would have no protection that way & he could only ship USPS, for his protection. Something tells me that the wrong person is being protected here. Total scam. |

Ed you just beat me to it. I was going to say that Eric hit it dead on upthread when he said the person probably printed the REA image and laid it down flat for a photograph. The black background from REA shows up in the image, but only to the borders of the holders. A lot of people use black backgrounds to scan, but it have it that way as a photo without cutting it out of a scan would be just about impossible. |

There is one interesting thing in his scan though... look at the back of the card around the "350". There appears to be a scratch on the PSA holder that runs from the bottom upward. This is not visible in the REA picture, albeit the scratch could have been from the scanner glass that was used if the guy did scan a picture he took of the REA picture. |

When checking the bid history, then clicking bidding details, why does bidder 4 show up on all other bidders 1,2,3,5,6 view spot?? Bidder 4 had a max of 190.00? Bidder 2 and 5 were the obvious shills! |

One of the rules for buying baseball cards on eBay is that the seller should show the entire front of the card-- all four edges simultaneously. It was suggested on the CU board that the card is laying on top of a holder. If this theory is correct (and I'm not saying it is), that would explain why the bottom edge is not shown-- as it is that closest edge that would most likely reveal the card to be lying on top. |
