That other Hornsby post prompted me to dig out my Chicago Cubs picture pack cards from the 30s... I was pretty sure I had Rogers Hornsby, here he is from the 1931 set. Have 10 various ones, a couple of Bill Veeck, who is a difficult Hall of Famer to locate on a "card". Was thinking about selling some of 'em.

Anyway, heres a 1931 Chicago Cubs picture pack card, and a National Chicle card.

@ W514s for Hornsby and Frisch, showing their trade, "new" ones have typewriter type letters, I guess that would be called serif. 2 cards for Cobb, Speaker, Alexander, and Scott.

Of the 10 players, 6 have update cards, 4 don't. I think I'm lacking the Cobb ex-manager card, will post the rest in a few days if you want.

The E120 and Neilson's cards are the same size. They were just scanned at different times.

This may not be the place to ask and, if so, I apologize but doesn't it seem that Hornsby cards are underpriced relative to players who were not close to being his equal. If so, does that mean that they are bargains that will appreciate in the future or do you think that they will just remain underappreciated? BTW, I was trolling the web yesterday and I found a site that listed Hornsby as the third greatest hitter ever after Ruth and Williams. Cobb didn't even make the top five.

I think Hornsby cards are undervalued compared to other stars of his era...I'm not sure what would have to happen though to make people realize that he was one of the greatest hitters ever. A movie maybe??? His name is just not mentioned when people bring up the all-time greats. The guy averaged over .400 BA for four years in a row!!!! It can't be his attitude because Cobb was worse....I'll take a Hornsby over an Evers every day of the week.

I have read where Hornsby could be a difficult teammate, which may explain why he hopped around so many teams during the second half of his career. It also seems that many players that hop around different teams never seem to get any love.

Jason - Thanks. Actually, SGC hammered it and gave it a 10 because of the writing on the front. I do ahve a couple of SGC 50 Lections though that actually look more like 70s.
