If every collector on this board who likes graded cards say once, just once in unison, that Ted/Frank and any others who detest all things slabbed and all collectors not in for the 'true enjoyment' and 'deeper understanding' of cardboard, that such collectors are all nitwits who are luckey (sic ) to be in your collective presence, you could......QUIT THE SNIDE COMMENTARY, POSTS, THREADS, ETC.. ETC... FOR EVER?

You're both like my wife at times, take a stab and then coyly remark it wasn't REALLY an insult, merely observation and I was just misreading her tone.

That's crap. And Leon, if you didn't pick it up in light of every other such stupid comment made by Ted and Frank in the last year.....well, good for you I guess.

Are your (T&F) collecting lives so dismally small that all you can talk about (apart from an incessant T206 meander) is the idiocy of grading and the idiots who partake? Yes, I've taken license with paraphrasing your commentary, but your sentiments are so painfully plain there is no hiding them.

Dan,

I see your upset, it really does get political this animosity between the Slabheads and the Puritans. I realize that people don't want to discuss politics in this forum. But once we all start listing subjects that we consider political, I'm pretty sure there would be very little to discuss.

Peter...Luckily slabbed or unslabbed isnt right wing left wing...so we can leave that subject out of this thread...correct?

My point is that almost none of us make only intelligent, cogent, unbiased posts that never bother or offend anyone or strike others as "stupid."

Peter S.

So your saying we should forgive the Puritans because their not perfect...hmmmmm. Okay. So in generall let's stay away from political posts except when we really want to start a pissing contest.

By the way these contests are normally held at the end of each month when almost anything goes...

I am saying if you disagree with someone, either respond to them on the merits or ignore them, but don't presume to ask them to stop posting, or ask others to do so, or insult the moderator.

That's absolutely true Peter, but when you become a one trick pony that complains about exactly the same thing (not in one thread, or two or three, but in dozens), over and over and over again......I would suggest that Ted and Frank's first 20-50 such comments were quietly digested and thought about, but the last 20-50 defy common decency.

Daniel

Edited to add, I didn't ask anyone to stop posting entirely, just in relation to over-abused references to the ills of grading and buyers of graded cards.

Dan, I started a vintage baseball thread last night, and bumped another one I started a few months ago.

The one I started has a handful of short responses (yours was lengthy), and the other one has no responses since my bump.

Evidently we'd rather discuss lemmings.

Dan,

You've got to respect the Puritans...they were the first to come to the land of the vintage cards...they have old habits that die hard. Let's just all be kinder and more civil to each other. E-mailing directly to the Puritan will probably be more appropriate instead of posting on a thread.

Judson,
Wasn't that Elvis Costello?

P.S. We are now getting dangerously close to a conversation about punk rock.

Maybe this can be the dividing line for vintage collectors. Our own "political" parties within the hobby, super!

At least Ted is on the "Right" side of the political debate.

So however he feels about slabbing. He's still one of the good guy's.

Ted is one of the good "guys."

But not one of the good "guy's."

I guess I really don't give a rat's rearend about how others perceive my collecting habits; I collect in a manner that is most appealing to me. Daniel, why do you let comments about your collecting style affect you to the extent that it prompts a thread such as this one? If it bothers you that certain individuals are implying that you lack knowledge about cards (due to a preference for slabs), then prove them wrong by actively posting in threads that actually have something to do with cards (and maybe you do, I don't keep track). I am sure, based on the limited exchange that we have had via email, that you have knowledge to share. These types of posts only serve to divide and personalize the board. Most of us come here to learn, relax, and share information about vintage collecting.

Wish I could find the off switch to hearing such critisicms, and am trying ......though haven't succeeded as well as I would hope. Were it once a month or so it would be alot easier to flip by, but seemingly every week the idea gets promoted about the daftness of grading and users of those services. And with considerable condecension in the writings.

I've never personally started a psa bashing thread for exactly that reason, because I can absolutely imagine how annoying it must be to all collectors who choose them to hear such constant whining. If there's a thread that asks for a recommendation on which service to use, I absolutely take the time to recommend the one I believe most in, but making users of PSA out to be idiots, lemmings, etc., is hardly gracious or effective.

Do you think similarly that those people who spend so much time revisiting an issue they know brings disquiet have any similar responsibility?
Is it really possible to 'get past it' and just talk baseball cards if a party keeps bringing some salt to throw in a now open wound?

Appreciate your thoughts.

Daniel

You have to have a pretty thick skin. The jibes we throw at each other here is nothing compared to what I get from friends and the love of my life. In my more rational moments, I'm sometimes overtaken by the absurdity of collecting not just cards, but anything. But...I still love to do it. I've learned to just not give a poot what anyone thinks. Which is just a long way of saying to ignore the bad stuff. It can't hurt you and life is better. (And yeah, I sometimes don't take my own advice, but I try!)

"Depends upon what the meaning of the word is, is." Hasn't this issue run it's course ? Why don't we argue about something more relevant, like which ocean is saltier, the Pacific, or the Atlantic?

John said, "Most of us come here to learn, relax, and share information about vintage collecting."

I agree that's why we should come here, but the problem is that because of the nature of this hobby, it's not relaxing - it's a place where there is so much tension, stress, arguments, name calling, jealously, etc,...

It's like a part time job...

Don't you think that's a bit overly dramatic? We are talking about BASEBALL CARDS. Who CARES if Frank or Ted or anyone else has a different view or even if they express it in insulting terms? Exchanges of ideas are a good thing, but what's the point of taking it personally?

Are you a Slabhead or a Puritan. Maybe, this analogy would help. This forum is like a schoolyard and there's all sorts of kids mingling. Some of the kids are pretty tough and they ask you whether you are a Slabhead or a Puritan.

The good thing in Cyberspace...is you can say neither and spit on their shoes and run. Tell me a part time job where you can have so much fun.

Moderator Dude is like Captain of the Traffic Boys. He thinks that he has some power...but we know differently.
