Now, we are "cooking"......this is one aspect of our hobby which has remained unaffected by
the "plastics" industry.

Barry.......I told you to hold onto that 32-card 1953 Color sheet (cards #65 - 96). Just think
what it would be worth nowadays ?

Nice sheet Ted! If the color is as rich and saturated as it comes up on my monitor it must be stunning.
I've got the more common low series one with the double printing on the back, but it's not nearly as colorful.

Robert- that is a fantastic piece. I wonder how it has remained in such nice condition considering its shape. It looks like a fold out postcard but doesn't seem to have a single bend in it. Pretty cool!

All three of the W strip card strips the seller had were stored rolled up. I left this one rolled up, should it be flattened and framed? When laid flat it curls a bit, but not much.

Not too much demand for this one, 1923 German Baseball Transfers, but has HOF's Alexander, Cobb, Ruth, Speaker, etc. There are 12 uncut sheets.

1952 Bowman 1st sheet of the LARGE set......includes Sammy Baugh, Y. A. Tiddle, Otto Graham, Doak Walker, Paul Brown, Charlie Trippi, Charlie Justice,
and Frank Gifford rookie,.

Extremely rare sheet.....probably unique.

Now resides in a nice frame with front and back glass. This one is a little unqiue as 49 Bowman sheets go since the backs are not over printed.

You are correct....your 1949 Bowman 1st sheet is unusual, since it does not
have the overprinted backs.
I have this same sheet with the usual overprinted backs from the 3rd sheet.

Ted, I'm still drooling over that 52 Bowman Large sheet. As a kid I loved the Bowman issues but couldn't afford the baseball cards. Nobody wanted football cards back then so I was able to get them cheap. That truely is a treasure, great piece.

You must be referring to the early '80s when FB and BasketBall cards were going very cheap.
I found this 1952 FB sheet in a Hobby store in Media, PA in 1984. In addition, I acquired all
the Bowman BB sheets from the same store. An employee at this store had a family member,
who worked for the old Bowman Gum Co.

If you're interested, I wrote an article on the 1952 Bowman (LARGE) FB set in the SCD issue
of Jan 3, 1986.

This is the 3rd series of 36 cards in this set....notice that 17 of the cards are short at least
two color passes in the printing process. The SLATE colored backgrounds should be either
ORANGE or GREEN pastel colors.

The 1949 Bowman set comprises of many Rookie cards and HOFers......in this series we have
HOFers Campy, Mize, Rizzuto and hopefully (this March) Gil Hodges. The cards of Campy and
Hodges are also their Rookie cards.

I also have a couple of the W573 strips, I have the Groh-Sheely and also a Schultz-Gowdy. A few years back I also had one that had the Alexander on it. I have owned 4-5 of them over the years and at least 2 were obtained rolled up.

I dont think the strips were sold to kids this way. I have always thought the strips (cards) came out of a machine of some type one at a time and torn off. Thats why so many of the W501, W573, W575-1 cards are found with slightly angled rough cut top and bottom borders.

The 2 W573 strips I own are framed together and were part of the Barry Halper auction.

I forgot to answer you......the colors are actually more vivid on my 4th series Bowman sheet than
the scan shows.

Now, my question for you......regarding your neat 1941 Play Ball sheet, is it the "paper" issue ?

If so, I thought that GUM, Inc. issued this as a 24-card adv. piece; which included Ted Williams ?

So, is yours a partial sheet......or, where there two 12-card sheets ?

Yes, it's the paper issue. As far as I can tell, there were 2 sheets of 12 printed- 1-12, and 13-24. I've seen 5 of the first 12 offered in the last 7 years, and 2 of the second 12. I've never seen a sheet with all 24.

Two darn good pitchers throughout the 1950's. HOFer Robin Roberts of the Phillies "Whiz-Kids".
And, Billy Pierce of the "Go-Go" White Sox. Billy ended his career with SF Giants in 1962-64.
