Although he may not remember or even know this...

I was first pointed to N54 by Bruce Babcock.

Not sure if I ever gave him a proper thanks.... so..... thanks Bruce!


I had a Matty D304... but did not really know what the card was... so I googled "Mathewson Butter Krust"....
google pointed me to Bruce's site and I emailed him.

He was very cool and gave me a very nice email response about the card, about grading,
and also told me about this forum.

I checked it out - have have been visiting ever since.

the fullcount days.......used to have equally spirited conversations there and wandered over here with Eliot, then Bill, and now grand imperial potentate Leon.....glad to be here with all of them still intact. Hard to believe it's been 5+ years here and a couple at fullcount board before that! What would I do at work otherwise?

I was doing a google search, looking for a good New York restaurant? Actually, a few years ago, someone directed me to this forum. It seems an Ebay item that I had listed was a topic of a thread. It seems that I had an unrealistic BIN on it. Since then, I read this forum nearly every day.

The same way I find everything else....Google. I was just getting interested in T206's and wanted to find out more information on them (probably around 2001). My frist stop was T206 museum, but I figured there had to be more out there. The rest they say....

I also collect Sports board games so I saw a reference to this forum during the investigation of the mystery of the Billy Owen Fan Craze card on the Yahoo Baseball Games group.

Anybody else here play APBA, Strat-O-Matic or any other baseball board game? Playing these games fit nicely with collecting old baseball cards and a fascination with the history of the sport.

I got an e-mail from someone a while back
I had some old judges I was selling on e-bay
the e-mail said I was getting slammed by this forum
about how I was handling my business
I sent responses to as many as I could but
couldn't make everyone happy
but I'm pretty sure there are a lot of happy
collectors that won those cards
remember these ??

When cardtarget.com started selling partial shares of vintage and rare cards there were references to this forums. It started with references to discussions on broadleaf 460's which cardtarget.com has 3 of and on a few other cards they sold shares in. Those references lead me here; there program has caused me to look at vintage cards I never would have in the past.

I was just getting into the whole message board thing over at the beckett boards a few years ago. The vintage participation over there is minimal and the prewar is basically non-existant. One day someone on those boards asked if there was a better place to talk about old cards and someone replied with a link to N54. I checked it out and was hooked immediately. I've been a regular-lurker-sometimes-poster ever since.

Thanks to all who share their knowledge and collections. You make the hobby more fun for me and I'm sure for others as well.

someone (whom i now know) who was accusing me of selling a fake ty cobb card on ebay. the green portrait was miscut across the name and i really had no clue. there were post from several members who agreed with him and several that did not. he tried the old "can i see the card in person" trick to see if i would scare off but when i told him "sure" meet me at my work (sheriff station) he never emailed me again...been here ever since.

do you remember those emails that you sent me??? you know who you are

I inherited a partial T206 collection almost three years ago. I wanted to know more about these, and started getting hits on N54 threads on google. Came here, learned much more here than anywhere else.

My first actual purchase was Feb 2006. I started with commons and didn't go after the more valuable cards until I had experience with fronts, backs, ebay, grading, trimming, etc. Common topics here. I still made mistakes, but not as bad as I could have. I have now completed the set minus 6: Wagner, Plank, Doyle, Magie, and the two St Louis rarities. Never have sold a card.
