Tonight an E93 (actually it was an E98) Bender in a 4 holder sold for close to $700. A Ramly Bender in a 4 holder sold for around $500. Amazing.

I think I was even more stunned by the PSA 5 E95 Wagner selling for $6025.55

....or the PSA 5 E92 Matty sell for $4999.99.

Im not sure how much to read into that auction - two e93 wagner psa 4's (one may have been an sgc 50) sold in the last week or two (one ebay and one in an auction) and both ended up right around 1700. I think this is a case of a couple bidders who just were going at it. Either way, sure makes my e93 wagner sgc 40 that I picked up for less than 1k a few months ago seem like a deal.

Josh,

You're forgetting the juice on the non-Ebay auction. Total was actually closer to $2K with the 15-17% premium. I do think the auction link I posted was an aberration but in hindsight, you were very fortunate to pick up that very nice Wagner for that price!

Thanks Don and that's true - I didnt consider the juice. But even 2k is about what I expect for a psa 4. it looked decent - and unlike the sgc 30 that just sold, no creases (let alone one through the middle of the card).

the last 19thcenturyonly auction i was out bid on a e92 croft's cocoa common, graded gai fair, it went for over 500 and i thought there was no way anyone out there was crazy enough to take the card over my high bid. i was wrong.

I think collectors are only recently finding out how rare Croft Cocoa cards are (something the astute Scott E has known for years).

It makes think real hard if now should be the time to try and sell my e95 set with the prices the way they are right now. I spoke with Mastro about a possible selling price. They asked me to send the set in so they could look at it but I have not done that yet - not sure if I will either. I guess the prices on these cards could still go up quite a bit.

I just thought that they might be able to give me a rough idea of what the set may go for since they deal in so much vintage stuff. I guess I thought it would be easy to tell since they are all graded, but I guessed wrong

Leon and Quan both gave me a bit of advice a while back when I contemplated selling off some caramel cards because of the outrageous prices: yes you'll make a nice profit but just think how much you'll have to pay to ever see those cards again down the road. I pass it on for what it is worth because I found the advice to be just as sound today as it was one year ago.

I am at the point where I don't really want to sell off cards that I think are beautiful and a good investment but I have no problems trading them for something else I think is beautiful and a good investment too. If I had a card which I am willing to sell, I am certain I could come up with another card that I like better and would be willing to take in trade for it instead of dirty ol' money that I will only end up trading for useless crap like food, shelter and fuel.

Dont know who this guy is, but he seems to be bidding high dollars on a lot of vintage material without any consideration for the actual value of the card. In fact, he bid over 1k for a '52 mantle that stated in the description "this card isnt graded and therefore per ebay's rules, it was being sold as a reprint. . ."

The price of the E98 Mack mentioned just above by Bob S. is truly amazing. I purchased one in slightly better condition about 18 months ago for around $120. Could I really sell it for ten times that now????

Fortunately, however, I believe I will be listing my Mack collection for a very reasonable price tonight in the B/S/T thread. Hate to do this. I must though in order to purchase some cards I want. And, my collection habits are constantly changing it seems (except for Croft's Cocoas - I will always collect those).

Now do you see when I listed the boatload of E98s for sale about 2 months ago in the B/S/T thread and some also on ebay, the one card I left out was the Mack? The secret is out about its scarcity, especially in nice shape. Wagners and Cobbs are a dime a dozen compared to Mack.

I totally agree about the Mack being really very tough in nice condition....the problem is that e98 Mack in POOR condition has been going for outrageous prices too.

I guess it's not a problem if you're selling.

I believe any e98 is tough in ex or better, but a vg is not that tough.
You don't see a lot of green Macks though.

I have to say, I really never thought that card would go that high, but it is a sweet card as Scott mentioned and he is on the crapper.

Scott...can I have my poor e98 mack back?

bob the mack is scarce regardless of condition. you won't see many VG macks either...for awhile my old sgc30 was the highest graded by that company, until scott submitted his unbelievable green set at the national. I'm sure there are hidden raw gems out there, but you'll see alot other nicer hof'ers before mack.

Here's my beautiful Mack, bought two months ago from a well-known dealer for $125. It was described as "VG w/piece of top border missing," LOL.

Now I feel pretty happy I kept it, not because it's worth $1200 but because I don't have to buy one that is

Tim- methinks I remember that card from the Larry Fritsch catalogue. I have seen green, blue and orange Macks but never a red. Does anyone have a red one that he could share with us (scan)?

I remember one very lowgrade red mack on a board member's website.
Was it wonkaticket maybe?

I was thinking the other day though about how orange e98 macks are seen WAY more than any other color....not that there seen that much at all lately.

After the recent prices on ebay for E98s including Mack, I bet there are a lot of people who wish they had gone after that group of 5 or 6 cards which has damaged top borders on ebay. If you bought that lot you are probably having the last laugh now.
