What are these trade cards?

Ok I know these have been named before but I never paid attention. What are these and how old are they? I just thought they were interesting. Thanks!

I don't know a lot about these but I'm told they date from the 1880s. Usually they appear with the Merchant Gargling Oil advertising but I think they may have been used by other companies as well. Low demand cards but inexpensive 19th century items. If you are going to use this stuff on your chilblains and hemorroids make sure you use the stuff in the WHITE wrappers.
