My sincere apologies for my last post

To all whom I offended with my last post:

I am very sorry for what I have done. With the most
innoncent intent, I ended up deceiving and upsetting many people.

I was just trying to figure out how much those cards being auctioned might be worth, and had no idea how else I might approach this without tipping everyone else off to the
auction. (In which case, it wouldn't be worth my time to even show up, because I always seem to be outbid on every auction or card that I am interested in.)

Obviously it's too late to reverse what I did, which was very
stupid and transparent, but I'd like to apologize to everyone on the
board for my ridiculous, immature, and deceiving behavior.

I am fairly new at collecting vintage cards, but I really love the
hobby. It is really a fascinating thing to get involved on so many levels, and
I hope I will not be shunned from this board, as I would like to
participate further in the future.

If you are new to the hobby and are looking to make some hobby friends, start out by telling the truth. The truth goes a long way. People will forgive you for this, but please understand in the age of the internet you are not the only one who knows about this. It was advertised extensively in the antique papers.

If there is one thing that should be known that if there is a decent auction anywhere on this planet the people on this site know about it and will be bidding on it. I do give you props for stepping up and admitting that you were wrong.

Everyone deserves a second chance...don't be shy about posting in the future.

You should not have gone back and edited the message though...that feature should be used for fixing a dramatic spelling or grammar error or to fix a sentence that doesn't make sense, not to change the past.

You've won a lot of respect in my book for coming back and straightening things out.

I think you'll find the majority of the people on the board here will be forgiving and respect the fact you cleared up the matter.

Dave Yoken - I believe your apology to be sincere. Your initial actions were not acceptable but your motive for not wanting to tip people off regarding an auction item was certainly understandable.

I am probably in the minority when I say you have nothing to apologize for. I understand what you were trying to do and don't blame you one bit. The board in general has been less willing to help out or provide information to people who are not in the click. It is too bad and I hope that will change.

In a hobby that is plagued by hypocricy and lies, your "error" does not even register on the charts. Good luck in the auction. I suspect that nothing will go cheap but there is always next time.

I think if he simply showed the scans and asked for some help in pricing the material, without revealing its source, someone on the board would have given him feedback. You don't have to say you own them, just simply say you are curious what some experts think these cards are worth. It doesn't reveal where they came from and there's no deceit. And it accomplishes exactly the thing he set out to do.

I agree with much of the sentiment already stated. I don't judge people by mistakes they make - we all make mistakes - but I feel you can judge people by the way they handle them.

I knew you might use the edit feature to cover your butt, that's why I kept the original text from your post and sadly you didn't disappoint. Silly rabbit, tricks are for kids. Dave, what you should have come clean as soon as you were busted. It's kinda ironic you thought users of this board were smart enough to answer your questions but dumb enough to fall for your story.

I do agree with Greg that as far as hobby transgressions go this is a small one and no reason to make it a big one out of it. Sadly Greg is right about the lack of enthusiasm about letting information out these days but I think there are still some collectors who are willing to help others and don't deserve to be lied to.

Heck, around here abuse is a sign of acceptance so if you take some grief consider yourself "in."

After all, you were smart enough to come here to get answers so you can't be all bad.

I fairly new to this board, but from all the posts I read on many subjects I'm surprised that someone would attempt to pull the wool over any eyes of the experts on this board. Just by reading posts about ebay problems, trimmed cards, fakes and board members remembering names from past ebay or any other transactions. This certainly did not affect me, but maybe other board members. All's good that ends good.
