I was a little surprised at some of the winning bids. Contrary to what a few might believe, caramel cards continue to be red hot. A lot of the lots sold for the projected values but caramel cards went for twice, sometimes three times projected values. The E94 Wagner in Vg went for $2000 and the E94 Young in Vg-VgEx went for $2200. I think Tim S. and I won the E94 lot at $2600 (that was our max) but I got blown out on the T207 Red Cycle Lowdermilk in G/Vg (first red Cycle back I have ever seen). |

Sorry guys, I contributed a little to the E94s selling so well. I didn't think my bids on the lot and the Wagner were winners but I DID think my $1800 bid on the Young would have won it. . . oh well. |

Pete- I didn't bid on it. The guy I promised not to bid on it, gave me a recpirocal promise not to bid on the lot of 13. I did the same thing on the Wagner with another collector. I know how you love Young color variations so that must have been a real disappointment. I wonder how much longer E94s keep going through the roof, regardless of condition? |

I've been out of touch for the last couple weeks and missed out on the auction. I would have been interested in lot #1006 for the Jack Rowe Old Judge. Anyone here by chance win that lot? |

My faxed bid of $800 on the lot equalled the $800 bid posted on their website, but the way they run the auction I have no idea if I won the lot. I might have, but my guess is I didn't. |

Thanks for the reply Barry, let me know if you came out on top and maybe we can work out something on the Rowe card. |

My experience with Hunt's yesterday has left me with a sour taste in my mouth. I placed a maximum bid on my lot of $2600. Barry Sloate had also left an absentee bid on the lot of $2400, so the lot officially opened up at $2500. The lot officially ended with a live bidder winning at $2600. I do not understand why the live bidder wouldn't have had to bid above $2600 as my bid was made days before. So the bottom line was I bid $2600 and lost the lot to another bidder who 3 days later entered his bid for $2600. I guess the winning bidder might have gone ahead and bid $2700 and won the lot but the basic principle is that if you place an absentee bid in their auction you are basically screwed because unless someone calls out your bid from the side of the hall, it will go unnoticed. Maybe the theory is that since live bidders pay immediately, Hunt's would rather take the bid of a live bidder than deal with an internet bidder. This is not the first time this has happened to me, happening in an ebay live auction also. I don't think it is right and I won't be involved in any more of their auctions. I hold nothing against the winning bidder but I think the entire process is unfair. I know that Barry Sloate is now trying to figure out if he won any lots in the auction as his other 3 lots all ended at his maximum bid, as did mine, so he is unsure if he were the winning bidder or not. It's just not a good system... |

I left word for them to call me if I won anything, so I will keep the board posted if I did. I left a bid of $1000 on the four T207, and it went for $700 plus the juice. If I didn't at least win that one, all hell will break loose. But I'll assume I did. We'll see about the other three. |

i was afraid of this very scenario (live bid takes precendence over absentee bidding) so I cancelled all my internet bids and requested to be a live phone bidder. Different approach, same result as I did not win any lots and contributed to the rising stock of e94s and caramel cards in general. |

Yes, according to the winning bidder who was there live that is exactly what happened. Since Barry Sloate had a bid of $2400 (absentee bid also), the lot opened up at $2500. The live bidder then bid $2600 and won it. My point is that since I had already entered the $2600 bid and Hunt's claims to show no preference between absentee and live bids, the auctioneer should have recognized my bid and the winning bidder should have had to bid $2700 to win. It's all spilt milk now and maybe David would have gone ahead and bid the $2700 and I would not have won anyway but I am through with Hunt's. |

All the auctioneer has to do if there in a situation like that would be to inform the live bidder that there is already an absebtee bid in place at $2600 and the live bidder now needs to bid $2700. This way, the absentee bid can remain hidden from bidders. Otherwise, there is no point in being an absentee bidder for any live auction. |

This really is nuts. If Barry's bid had been $2500, your absentee bid of $2600 would have been enterred, and the floor bidder would have lost, unless he was willing to go higher. The amount of the THIRD PLACE bidder's bid should have no impact on the result of the auction. Any auction where it does have an impact is using a bad system. |

Deciding on which $2600 bid to recognize is at the discretion of the auctioneer. It is the same as if the bid is $2500 and then two live bidders bid $2600, the auctioneer has to decide which $2600 bid to recognize. In this instance the auctioneer chose the live bid over the absentee bid. Normally a live bidder will have an advantage over an absentee bid or a telephone bidder. |

In response to posts on this thread from Jay and Elliott I would say that Jay you are correct and Elliott you are incorrect. |
