Larry Tipton would be proud of all those cards...if you were wondering, he is a long time collector (mostly post-war) and original member of OBC (oldbaseball.com). He truly has some beaters in his collection and over the years, collectors in OBC started calling true dogs of cards "tipton mint". Some dealers have heard this term and have even used it to describe cards at shows and ebay (Kevin Savage and Roger Neufeldt come to mind). Guess it has caught on...I will have to post my Magie sometime tonight...it is truly tipton mint. |

Joshua forgot to mention the quandry facing the Tipton collectors of OBC - when you upgrade a "Tipton Mint" card, which direction does it go? If you have a PSA 2, you obviously need a PSA 1 to "upgrade!" Ahhh...the beauty of collecting beaters! |

I owned my gaming and comic store when the Magic: The Gathering collectible card craze hit. A regular customer, and one of the topped ranked players in the world, had cards that were so beat up because he refused to use card sleeves like everyone else. People around the store would call beat up cards, Kelly Cards. We sponsored our top players and paid their expenses to travel to pro tour stops. It wasn't long before we started hearing people at the pro tour stops and all around CA talking about "Kelly Cards". It was always funny to see people take a look at his cards and tell him he had cards that would make Kelly proud, then tell them that he was The Kelly. |

I can SEE what a "Tipton" card is from this thread, but what does the word "Tipton" come from? |

Too bad I currently don't have a scanner, or otherwise I could posts dozens of Tipton-worthy cards like Ben's practically pack-fresh E99 Hogan. |

In collecting the different color variations of caramel cards, I came across the skinniest E98 in existence. Some owner had shaved off both left and right borders but left it the right height. Since it is a blue Coombes and I have never been able to find another, it is in the safe somewhere, neatly stored in a top loader although from time to time I have been tempted to send it in to PRO just to see if they would grade it |

You should this card. My 58 Mantle is missing 1/4" off the top, and a 1/4" off the bottom. Then it has creases all through out the card.....all 75% of the original card!! |
