I love this board, but lets call it the way it is,,,it's a vintage card board, we all get off topic sometimes, and it's cool, but lately most threads have been about anything but vintage cards...

this is not my board, or my call, but my opinion is I can get this crud by opening an aol account....

I agree its sad about caminiti, it's also sad about superman,,,,,is caminiti on a cracker jack card I missed? haha...actually it's not you Adam,,,it's Gary...

I guess we will disagree, but I come here for cards, not Liberal cheap shots..I know Kerry is your neighbor in Boston, go nuts vote for him, but it pisses me off when I see this stuff here...

I know you can say don't read the posts if I don't like them,but how can I tell if it is about cards( the reason I am here) or dribble?

I have to agree keep the politics off the board. there are plenty of places to go and vent this is not one.

The Caminiti death is sad but he took steroids and was hooked on crack. He made bad decisions and it cost him and his family dearly.

I don't know about the mock issues of the last several years.

Baseball, like the Constitution, is a dynamic, growing thing. Otherwise, it loses its attraction for the future generations. Sure, this is a vintage baseball card board but the middle word in the name is "baseball". Most of us follow contemporary baseball, and many of us feel bad to see a contemporary of ours (generationally, at least) dead so young and for nothing. I didn't know that man and I don't do drugs, but he's a year older than me and he has young children too, so I feel it is worth a moment's reflection and comment as to how someone of our generation blessed with talent and resources could end up dead like that. It could happen to anyone, so we should all be thoughtful as to what we all have. That's all I meant.

But if something is bothering me I find that there are more productive things to do than have a brain dump on a baseball card message board.

We're all here because we have a common interest that unites us...there are other boards to debate ideas that divide us.

Re: Lee's Caminiti comment - I think you are absolutely right. The problems he had in his life were almost all of his own making, but any death at a young age is a shame and I wish he would have been able to conquer his demons. The biggest tragedy is the void it leaves for his children - the empty spot that will be there for graduations, weddings, etc.

A friend of mine in San Diego was named "Californias Teacher of the Year" the year Caminiti won MVP, and she got to meet him, and was honored on the baseball diamond.

"Superman"s name is Christopher Reeve, and he was paralized 10 years ago in a horsebackriding accident. I somehow found his death much more shocking that Caminiti's--because he had been such an optimistic advocate for research into quadropalegic cure--and does anyone remember when they showed us a film of his walking accross the stage at the Oscars (all done with mirrors of course).

I have often wondered if C. Reeve was his real name, because the original T.V. Superman was named "Reeves," and I think "Christopher" as well. He committed suicide...

I understand your point, but what about the hundreds of thousands of Iraqis who died under the reign of a madman?

Is a death more tragic if it is American rather than Iraqi, or because we hear stories about it on the evening news?

There were a great deal of empty spots in Iraqi weddings under Saddam that people didn't care about because it didn't interrupt their nice comfortable existence.

We're all tighter than a bullfrog's butt in the good ol' USA lately (and that's water-tight). Lighten up, everyone and have a laugh...Hey, I have to have my posterior operated on next week--I need all the jokes I can get...

Leon, you constantly amaze me with your collection. Is that slab standard sized or tall boy sized?


Oh, and the Reeve/Reeves thing came up when the Superman movie first came out. Reeve said at the time that it was a family name, not a stage name, and that when he was a kid he used to get a lot of questions about whether they were related, but they were not. He isn't related to that other famous Reeves, either, Steve Reeves (the 1950's and 1960's weightlifter who made several spaghetti costume epics; the "Joey, do you like gladiator movies" reference in Airplane was about Steve Reeves' films, which had an iconic stature in the gay community back then).
