D BrownMy great-grandfather played minor/semi-pro ball in the 'teens, and an uncle recently shared some snapshots of one of the only relics of his career. I've found a couple traces of info on it online, but nothing very solid.
The object is a "Spalding Baseball Trophy" (though it's only a medal), and it includes what I assume is the custom stamp or inscription on the reverse, "Colorado Champions 1918." My knowledge of g-grandfather's career only extends to his time in the midwest -- MINK league, and a team in Iowa. Sorry for the blurry front photo!
If anyone has more info on Spalding medals or trophies, I'd love to hear. And if anyone knows who the "Colorado Champions" of 1918 were, that'd be even better. I assume that this was a stock/mail-order trophy that local leagues or teams bought and had customized.
Thanks in advance for your help. I'm seeing my grandfather this weekend and would love to bring back some info on his dad's career.
