I've noticed in a few posts that people are listing Cobb/Cobb as major cards they are missing from their t206 sets. When did a Cobb with a Ty Cobb tobacco back become part of the complete set of t206s? It's just another back variation like Sweet Cap, Piedmont, etc. Sure, it would be nice to own one, but by the standards that have been around for decades, this was never considered a seperate card, just a very rare back variation. |

I think I just followed the lead on the Monster post, I agree that the Cobb/Cobb is a back variation, not a unique card. |

Im of the idea that its more of a promo card than part of the set,if the back came on ANY other card in the set besides the red background cobb i would change that thinking. |

I agree that it is a back variation like Sweet Cap or Broadleaf and is not necessary for a complete set of T206 fronts. However, I would not consider a T206 back collection complete without it. One can justify not needing it for obvious reasons (cost and difficulty), but that does not eliminate the fact that it is one of the backs T206s were printed on. |

As an ardent back collector, and still not really pursuing the T206's yet, the Cobb/Cobb has to be classified as one for completion of the backs. No different than having a type card set complete without any ACC designated card (and probably undesignated too), imo......regards all |

a rare back variation. I don't necessarily think it is a promo card, just because there are so few of them. If that were the case, we could deem the Red Cross T207s as not issued too. Wasn't there a big find of Cobb/Cobb cards a few years ago that had 5 or so of them in an old book? |

Yes, there were a group of 5 found in Georgia and offered in a Robert Edward Auction in 1997. I believe there are now 12 known in total. The fact that those five were all found in Georgia suggests that perhaps Ty Cobb brand tobacco was offered for a limited time in the home state of the Geogia Peach. |

Adam,i meant it was more of a promo type card to me because it only comes on back of the red background cobb portrait and no other fronts from the set.I would totally change my opinion if another front(any player at all) appears with this back but until then i dont consider it part of the set.It has nothing to do with how many there are.It doesnt mean im right in thinking this way but its just my personal opinion |

I did get mine from an REA auction, though not the one with the big find of 5 in 1997. It seems like REA has handled the public sales of most of them. |

My opinion the Cobb with Cobb back is not a T206, it has a glossy front surface similar to the T213-2 or T214. I would think it is a separate issue and only card in set. Frank |

not only the back, but also the front is different (texture)...I was hoping someone would say it before I had to. Mark Macrae says same thing... |

I have discussed this with Marc Macrae as well, but I am not convinced by his argument that the shallack (sp?) coating on the front, alone, makes it a different issue unto itself. It has the same factory and district designations as other T206s and exactly the same front image as any other red background Cobb, including the brown lettering of the name. The shallack on the front could just be an anomoly on the Ty Cobb brand, but does that mean it is not a T206. I would think that if Ty Cobb brand was a brand of the American Tobacco Company which issued the set and it is identical to other cards in the set in all other ways and was issued during the same period, that this is simply an anomoly, but does not eliminate its place in the T206 set. |

I can't read the factory designation on the Cobb/Cobb card, but even if it matches a facotry used for the t206s, this doesn't mean that it still belongs to the set. If it is a promotional item and they were using an image of Cobb from the t206 set, then it only seems reasonable that these cards would be printed in the same place. Combined with the different fisnish and the fact that no other card, even a differnt Cobb, has ever been found, doesn't exactly lend an credence to the card being issued as part of the t206 series. There are just far too many things that say this not a t206. |

I guess it is simply a matter of opinion as to how somebody want to interpret the known facts. That's what makes the world go around. |

actually Hal,its worth more now because I and other baseball card experts(i use that term generously for me,eventho it is all i do) deemed the card its own "set" the card should be worth more because he now has a complete set. |

you are insulting the first elected president we will have since 1996. Who'd ever think that the only country in north america with a dictator appointed by an oligarchy would be the USA? Besides, you aren't rich enough to vote for gov. bush. Of course, almost no one else is, either, but that won't stop the poor misguided souls from doing it anyway. |

As I recall, King George did not want another recount in Florida and took it to court to stop it. (The recounts you mention happened after his coronation). And since Day 1, his administration has been a disaster. He has alienated virtually all our (former) allies, lied to us to drag us into an unjustified war, pilliaged our civil rights, undermined America's once broadly accepted moral integrity, lost millions of jobs in America, plundered a budget surplus into hundreds of billions of dollars of debt, and now we are in a war which is garnering more hate for us daily and there seems to be no end in sight. |

The best line I've heard regarding the Iraq sitution is, "Why are we struggling to come up with a constitution for Iraq? We aren't using ours anymore, so let's give them ours." Wish I knew who said it. |
