| id of this card?

Posted By: leon Has anyone else seen any of these? I know the Babe had lot's of different clubs, promotions, etc. but I haven't seen one of these before. I got it in the mail a few days ago and it looks real.....although at first the staining looked a little suspicious. I must have looked at it for 15 minutes last night....you know...how you sort of tilt the card to see the aged gloss on the surface, put it under a 10x loop and a 4x magnifying glass....looking at the edges...comparing the staining on the back to the front to make sure it wasn't "too" even.....yeap...looks ok |

Posted By: JC My guess is from the Quaker Oats company that issued premiums in the 30's. I think Henry Yee specializes in this "type" stuff. |

Posted By: Hankron I didn't recall if it was exactly like this one, but I have seen similar and likely legitimate Babe Ruth club cards. I would not be surprised if you found one looking through the old MastroNet catalogs. |

Posted By: Hankron Please note that, if vintage/original, there is a strong chance that it is a releif print. This printing is not difficult to identify, is obsolete (meaning the presence of this type of printing virtually assure that the card is vintage) and is a topic specifically covered in a weeks ahead. |

Posted By: leon Nice pick up. I just went to your book, Authentication and Forgery Detection of Collectible Prints (shameless plug), which I bought about 2-3 years ago, and chapter 7 was great. It explained it in detail. It is indeed a real one.....best regards |

Posted By: scgaynor These are pretty common, I have probably had about 3 or 4 on ebay in the last few months, if you have both the card and envelope they are worth about $150. They are rarely found in less than Nm condition, somebody must have found an bunch. |
