Default uh ..oh......now what?

SO since I have been on somewhat of an ill-afforded small, buying spree lately I got some cards in the mail. I can usually hide these new "investments" pretty well. Not today. I picked up some W strips- full strips. This beautiful and ornate W573 strip must be 3 friggin' (@Tbob) feet long. I have a rather small office but she (the lovely little wife) is absolutely going to notice this thing So...
1. Where do I put it? (no smart-allecky answers)
2. What do I tell her when she sees it?

thanks in advance for ya'lls help
leon

1) Tell her it's a cheap modern reprint---you would never spend the money to buy an original, or

2) Tell her it's "museum quality", or

3) give her some money and tell her to buy some shoes.

(1) Just be straight with her and apologize for spending so much money...but indicate that vintage baseball cards, unlike many other things you spend money on, do not typically depreciate in value.

(2) Get her started on an N172 set.

(3) Remodel the kitchen.

Leon: Get yourself a 2-sided frame the same size as the card strip...fill the one side with pictures of the wife, the kids, the dog, etc. and hang it on the wall... When she's not around flip it over and there are your cards.

All very clever ideas but.....I like Charlie's idea....It could be the ole Get Smart 2 sided picture trick And I could give her multiple bad impressions of movie stars to distract her when she comes into the office. ...nah, better stick to the 2-sided picture frame !! ...and in a little while I practice the "move" of the cards from the garage (in my car) to the office....will need to be "bery bery quiet" as Elmer would say..so she won't see.........later

Leon, a creative lie is always best in these situations, so tell her...
...they are drawings you made when you were in first grade.

Leon, You could send it me I have plenty of wall space and no one to explain it too. I will send you a picture (enlargement if you prefer). I believe it would fit nicely over the door in my spare bedroom/den/computerroom. And you could come and visit it at anytime, I will give you a lifetime pass. Anyone else that would like to see it or whatever happens to be hanging on my walls would have to pay admission.

Leon,
I am partial to the diversion tactic. When she asks about it, a dropped vase or the mock toe stub usually does the trick. After the diversion you should follow up with a question about how her day was.

If she persists I like to pull out plan "B". Say I traded someone for it. The baseball card trade has a certain boyish cuteness to it and has no financial impact.

Also, it maybe a good time to delete the "Items Won" section of your My Ebay.

Nick

Leon: Truth is she's gonna find out sooner or later so just be yourself and everything will be OK...Which reminds me of a funny story. A good friend of mine for 25+ years since Grammer School, as a joke bought a frame with a beautiful girl already in it....kinda like a display picture from the manufacturer to sell the frame. Anyway he always displayed it for everyone to see what a knockout girl he was dating....It looked so real...he really had me fooled like everyone else. Thing was none of us ever saw the girl...It turns out his new girlfriend at the time.... and future wife, was always amazed at all the "Beautiful Girls" he always dated....Turns out she found out the pic was a scam (Because he told her) and boy was she pissed...but he got the girl he wanted and he is a great guy... A little off the subject humour I hope....

If you use the "Get Smart" 2-sided-picture trick, then, if discovered by your wife, you'll only want to know one tv impression (also from Get Smart):
"Sorry about that, Chief..."

Whenever I overspend (like I have been lately) and pay a solid market price, I (1) tell her how I've been looking for the card for many years and have always dreamed of owning one, and (2) I remind her of how the stock market has tanked and there is nothing else making a good return, and I back it up with concrete examples of prior deals I've done.

You have to set up this alibi by crowing about your past great deals and the great market prices on stuff you own already.

Or you can just visit "down there" as often as possible. . .
