According to Lee Allen in his book "The National League Story," Johnny Evers's name was/is pronounced "EE-vers, not EVV-ers." How 'bout that. |

I just found that out about 8 years ago. My friend is the great-great niece of Johnny Evers. She has just a few items from him, like a signed ball of the double play trio (heavily schellacked (sp)) and a custom engraved pocket watch that was given to Evers. |

I've been told KIKI is pronounced like KYE-KYE or CHI CHI (like Delta Chi) instead of what I thought was KEE-KEE......anyone confirm or deny? Just sounds silly to me. Kee-kee is much better. I won't worry about his last name............. |

I am familiar with Evers as his family owned a sporting goods store in Albany, NY as recent as the late 80's to early 90's. I've have always know it to be pronouced with a strong "E" sound. I would think the first inclination would be to prounounce it this way as in Christmas "Eve" with an "rs" on the end. Although, I realize there are some strang pronunciations. |

"Kiki" is pronounced "Cuy-Cuy", as in "Cuyler", apparently - http://www.pubdim.net/baseballlibrary/ballplayers/C/Cuyler_Kiki.stm has more info. |
