Anyone ever heard of these 1914 B-18 Baseball Blankets before? This is new to me... |

They are legitimate and fairly common. 5-1/4" square, felt pieces. No Mathewson. They were sold wrapped around tobacco products. You will see them often on eBay. There are often color variations for each player, with some variations being expensive |

They are inexpensive relative to cards (ala T206s). They were intended to be sewn together to make make large quilts (blankets), and you will occasionally find old quilts or pillow cases that incorperate these felts with related tobacco silk and felt items. |

Well, almost cool. I guess there's no Mathewson (what a bunch of felt-square blanket making losers for NOT including Christy in their quilts.) The gall! |

B18 is a strange set. Ten teams have players in the set, while 6 others do not. A number of HOFers were playing for teams which appear in the issue, yet those players don't have a blanket - Sam Crawford, Nap Lajoie, Honus Wagner, Christy Mathewson, Johnny Evers, Rube Marquard, Tris Speaker. |

with no stains. This blanket really captures Johnson well, and the white background and base-path colors are a very nice example of this issue. Some of the B18's don't look much like the players. Another one I really like is Gibson. |

Christy wore those velore PJ's with the booties and trap door to bed so he was not in need of a blanket. You know, the one's with the plastic on the bottom of the booties so you would not slip while running on a wood floor! Incidently, I refused to take out the trah or cut the lawn today and my wife, who is a redhead looked much like your icon when I asked for some dinner tonight! |
