Default Premium for Scarcer Ad Back M101-4/5s

In the current HA there are two M101-4/5 Joe Jacksons. With about two weeks to go a blank back PSA 6 is at $32,000 while a Morehouse Baking Jackson (Morehouse being considerably scarcer than blank) is at $92,500. While things could change a lot between now and auction end, these prices point toward scarce backs being worth considerably more than blank backs in this series.

Hasn't it been that way forever?

And a doubly scarce back/card.

I presume "M4" and "M5" there refer specifically to M101-4s and M101-5s respectively. Blank backs are found with both though, as are several others (including Morehouse).

Jay, this just suggests that you should bump your buy offers considerably on those Wares you like . Anyway, M101s generally have been performing well the last year or so, regardless of back, but yes, the scarcer ad backs are faring better.

One thing that bothers me about the REA auction is their listing reference to Morehouse Baking being among the scarcest, along with Holmes to Homes and Indy Brewing. While the former is indeed tough, especially without unsightly paper loss, the latter is more toward the middle of the pack. Although everyone should do their own research, REA cites an article written by Tim N. and me 17 years ago, and we did not compare those two directly or identify them as it would appear from the listing. Also, not to pee in anyone's Raisin Bran if bidding on the auction, but there have been another 200 or so Morehouse injected into the market the past year or so, which makes them far more available and moves them down on the scarcity list. Just sayin'.

Leon--Yes, but probably not to the extent that those early numbers would suggest.
Bobby--I hope those listings arr not meant to be exhaustive. First, there are obviously more backs. Second, some like Famous and Barr and Herpolsheimer contain both M101-5 and M101-5 type cards. I still don't understand what your list was meant to indicate.
Todd--Good points, except about the higher prices 🤣

I don't know, Jay. When I bought the almost complete set of backs from you 20? years ago, they weren't cheap (at the time I bought them) .

That's a beauty, Leon. So many have that ugly, but somehow appropriate, green stain in the lower right corner. I wonder why the tops of the letters in the player's name don't show up. It's an interesting variation.
