Default Clark Griffith in the N172 Old Judge Set?

Am I missing something here? I was trying to find out who was managing the Cincinnati Reds during the T206 era, Huggins or Griffith. While checking the stats I found that Clark Griffith first season was 1891. Old Judges (N172) by all research were issued from 1887-89.

Curious what I am missing.

I may have figured it out. Was Milwaukee considered a minor? Western Association

He's on Milwaukee in the OJ set. The set doesn't feature only MLB teams.

There's def 1890 cards in the N172 OJ's, too.

Walt Wilmot (CHI) for instance. He didn't sign with Chicago until the last week of November 1889 and it's very doubtful they were cranking out his Chicago cards over 1 month in December.

I am far from an OJ expert but I know that there were Players League cards issued and that only existed in 1890. Also minor league cards (e.g. Griffith on Milwaukee of the Western Association as originally surmised).

Also formed in November 1889...and one of the reasons Wilmot was purchased from WAS after CHI lost a few players to the PL.

The PL cards have always garnered a little niche in the OJ set. I (and many others) have seen, several times, where the "PL" on the card was overlooked. A mistake by the sellers.
