Hi-
The New England League was a group of New England teams playing minor league baseball at various times from the 1880s-1940s. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_England_League I have a few items (see below) from the 1880s through the 1910s. Please share your own items from the league. Nashuas vs Milfords scorecard ca 1880s Fall River Indians postcard ca 1900s Lowell vs Lynn program: 1911 Burns Day hang tag: 1916 Alan |

I use to have a Boston Twilight League Ball, not anymore. I think the BTL was part if the NE League?
James W. Brine "Boston Twilight League" Offical Ball. The Boston Twilight League was a semi-pro league in the early 1900s composed of teams from the Boston neighborhoods and suburban towns within the immediate vicinity of Boston. |

That is a cool ball! The twilight league was different but also a cool early league in the area. I have had some twilight league schedules and a team photo from Middleborough MA. I had no idea they had a ball for the twilight league. I do know they had one for the New England League but it is fairly difficult to find and I am sure the twilight league one is even more difficult to find.

Here's a scorecard from early 1907, when Eddie Grant played in the league. Harry Lord also played in the game. For those who are unfamiliar with Grant, he's the most prominent baseball player to die in battle.

That Lowell - Lynn scorecard is cool. I believe a relative is in the lineup for Lowell and looks like the game was played same month/day as my birthday.

Alan,
Milford never had a team in the New England League (1885-1915) and Nashua was only a member 1901-5, so that scorecard is for a clash of town teams. Always an editor, I must also point out that the Joseph Burns tag is from an Eastern League game since the NEL disbanded after 1915. Chris's 1907 scorecard also is not NEL since Portland did not have a team in the league that year. Bob R Last edited by spec; 03-18-2025 at 09:20 PM. |

Thank you Bob! I always appreciate the corrections. I have had both the scorecard and the hangtag classified as NE League for a while but I see what you mean. I had started to research the scorecard before I posted it and I think I stopped when I saw one of the two teams in the league in the 1880s.
That is cool regarding your relative Peter! Who was he? What teams did he play for? Edited to add that the Nashua team played in the NEL post 1900 so I don't know why I thought it was an 1880s NEL item (plus the fact that Milford never had a team in the league). I believe I'm a relative of Cuke Barrows who was a star when he played for Lowell. The Chicago White Sox brought him up a few times but he never was as good as when he played for Lowell.
I'd be interested if you want to sell.

I will post some other of portland items. But I would like to ask if anyone has a scorecard from 1925- 1927 with Sterling listed as a player. I have been looking for 50 years for one...He is my Grandfather.
This is postcard featuring Hugh Duffy as Manager of Portland Team. |
