I’m working on a 1950 Bowman master set and want to make sure I’m aware of any and all errors/variations. It doesn’t seem like there are many in this set compared to others. Of course the last 72 cards in the set come with or without the copyright line on the back. I also learned after scouring past threads that #245 Papai comes with or without a blue streak of ink on the bottom of the card. Are there any other errors/variations that I should be aware of?

I did not find any of these -- it was a cursory check of the COMC Data Base but TCDB says the Larry Jansen (#66) Cap is either Black or Blue.
I also checked the only #245 we have with a blue streak on the bottom is a no copyright card. For a master set, I'd personally be thrilled to only have those two cards to add to the more well known copyright/no copyright card. I think I'll check all of them the next time I'm at work to see if we have more. And updated; We did have more but those blue streak cards are tough with or without copyright. Rich

Thanks for the response Rich. I’ve looked through scan of lots of Jensen cards and personally decided that the blue/black cap difference is simply a slight difference in color quality for that particular card and don’t consider it a variation. Looks like there’s all sorts of shades from dark blue to black depending on how good the color quality of the printing is.

The no copyrights 181-250 were tough for me and for some reason the lower numbered no copyrights in that range are very scarce. I did end up with 4 Papais because the blue streak ( or lack of it) can be found on both copyright and no copyright versions.
Agree on the Jensen Last edited by ALR-bishop; 03-07-2025 at 10:26 AM. |

Also agree with everyone else on Jansen, it’s not a variation just differing ink levels. My checklist has no other variations for 1950 besides the 4 Papai’s, for whatever that’s worth. |

And if you want a challenge beyond the no copyrights you could pursue these
